Stripping Paint off a Plastic Athearn Model

Has anyone ever tried to strip the paint off a plastic Athearn freight car? I use Chameleon on anything I strip, but I have never tried it on an Athearn plastic car.  Chameleon barely touched the paint on an Athearn 53' (metal) flatcar, so this is why I ask.  I am hoping the paint they put on their plastic cars does not have the same properties.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: striping metal cars...

1. Use pine-sol for as long as it takes (not usually too long).

2.  When scrubbing, do it in a cup of isopropal. Do not scrub with water, it'll just make everything all gooey.

For plastic cars with factory paint, I don't know why anyone uses anything other than 91% isopropal.  I've had issues striping my own paint jobs.

I used "Klean Strip KS-3 Premium" from Home Depot for Athearn metal cars.  It strips them clean in about an hour.  You have to remove any plastic parts because this stuff will dissolve them.  The reason I started this thread is I want to strip an Athearn SIECO boxcar with Chameleon, but I don't know if Chameleon will work.  I imagine the paint that Athearn uses on their SIECO boxcars is the same they use on any plastic model in their lineup.  That is why I hope someone has tried something on an Athearn plastic model that worked that they could share with me.  I don't have any Athearn "sacrificial lambs" I can try, so I hope someone knows something that works.  Thanks.
