I am just hoping they offer the three variations on CB&Q baggage cars from HO in N.  I might have to buy the whole run to make sure they get built! ::)

I was really wanting the N&W cars, but I didn't want to pre-order because I'd hate to order them and with my luck, come in while I'm short in the wallet. I was figuring on picking them up at the time if finances allowed.

I don't know where to go with this one.........

I HATE pre ordering - no way; no how..............everytime I pre order I'm P'd when it's late; someone has a portion of my cash or I have to account for money's sometimes "years" later....

On the other hand; I know Jason at Rapido; bottom line; he's "one of us". He's good people and tellin it like it is..............No small or medium sized company can bankroll a loser in this, or really, any economy and survive long term.....why would they ?

Yet; I HATE being asked to "commit" to something I'm yet to see.....maybe the paint's wrong shade; the couplers suck; the ends are wrong; the trucks wobble........... I can't risk it........

On the other hand; I scream and yell when the small firm makes enough for the pre order and I have pay through the nose, if I can, on Evil Bay when godless speculators have gobbled up the spolis..........

But I HATE pre-ordering.........

I just don't know where to come down on this one..............
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Its easy for me - I order from MBK. If it comes in and I don't like it I don't buy it. No credit cards, no BS.

I will pre-order established models, such as the Atlas 90 ton hoppers, or other rolling stock, but not loco's

We have several L&N and C of G modellers down here. The HO L&N's and CG'scars did pretty well, especially the baggage cars. We have had 2 people pre-order the CG N scale cars, but notta on the L&N's. The CG guys know the cars are playing the close enough card and for good reason. The L&N guys do not think the Ra[pido cars are anywhere near close enough to want and seem to be throwing their lot with Walthers and IM for now. After looking at the info available, I have to agree with them on that. I don;t have any C&O's ordered as I am not doing much in the way of passenger trains now and believe it or not, the Walthers and IM's are closer to the prototype than the Rapido's.

I do believe the economy has much to do with it also, and I think that buying habits may be changed for quite awhile due to this fact.

I thought about ordering some of these, but unfortunately for me the Rapido cars fall in the same boat as the MT Circus train cars.

Having a single car (or a couple of them) does not make a train.  I want a sleeper, a dining car, an observation car, some coaches, baggage; you know, a train.

So I could buy some Rapido coaches.  They will then sit on the shelf until I don't know when waiting for I don't know who to make the other cars I need.  I don't need to tie up my money in shelf queens that may not get the rest of the set for 15 years.

I would love to have complete passenger trains for a couple of different roads.  Every one I've researched (and yes, it takes time to do that too) is missing one or more cars.

Kato got this right.  If you're going to do a passenger train, do the whole thing and put it in one box.  If only they could learn there were trains east of the rockies.

That's why I'm hoping they do the Pullman Bradley Light Weights in N.  It solves a multitude of open issues for me, as all of the other equipment required for various consists these will appear in I either have or will have by the time Rapido PBLWs would appear.

You model C&O, if you consider the late 60's and early to mid 70's you could mash B&O and C&O cars together on the same train, with mixed E-8's too. If you model a post '71 train you can get cars all over the gamut (but stick to eastern roads). Not to mention some of the prettiest E8 passenger unit schemes (the L&N yellow-nose comes to mind). I think the early year's of Amtrak saw some of neatest mashups. Or it could give you reason to make up your own excursion train!

Your right about the early days of Amtrak.  Used to hang out at the joint Amtrak/Southern station in Alexandria, Va and some of the weirdest consist you could think of would show up.  Looked like some model railroader couldn't make up his mind what to model (who's that remind you of?).  One day a Southbound Florida train came in with an old "Q" slandnose E unit on the headend.   Some real neat looking trains.

Too bad that some road names may be droped, but I think sometime it boils down to accuracy or closer to the protype cars. Some roads like the IC didn't have sleepers with duplex rooms, dito for Erie yet the cars would look very nice in these paint schemes. As someone who has a bizillion passenger trains, ok, not quite a bizillion, but alot ranging from Con Cor LTD Edition sets to expensive correct consists IE: Denver Zephyr it would be nice to see all these paint schemes released. If some do not though then it is not quite a big deal as I know that these cars are CN protypes and better cars like Walthers might appear. Yes I too hate the order now or else mentality, but if you want to get certain obscure (at least to some) roads like CG then you have to reserve now and one wonders if any other manufacture will do that scheme. I have already been aquiring L&N cars to go with my Life Like old scheme E-7's Con Cor Blue cars ,silver fluted cars and Walthers fluted and while I know they are not accurate rivet counter models they will still make a nice train,so I reserved several of the Rapidos as well. We can only hope that some of the second run paint jobs do get produced. If I can't have the correct car or bash one for my passenger trains then I guess I do settle for the next best thing like a Budd Santa Fe obs car lettered for the FEC since it looks pretty good. Of course cetrain cars like a Milwaukee Sky Top obs car would just be wrong in anything but MLW colors. NUFF SAID ! Nate Goodman (Nato).

Amen, brother!  As a Lehigh Valley modeler, these are must-have cars for my Black Diamond train.

I have to disagree with your position on this - I do not want to HAVE TO buy an entire consist (al la Kato) to get a car or two I want.

Now; were someone to do one of the few consists I want then I might have a different opinion but I'm not sure that I wouldn't have the same take on this. Sleeping cars and some other types of equipment were highly interchangable; it wasn't odd to find a foreign road sleeper on any named train; in fact Kato recognized this with their PRR consist.

I don't want to have to buy an entire PRR/GN/NP/CB&Q etc... train to get a couple of sleepers or a parlor car that would have been interchanged; and the same can apply for baggage - express cars as well.

The best of both worlds would be a chance to buy a full consist or specific cars.....but the world isn't perfect....

The odds of anybody making anything but a short list of well known passenger trains is slim to none.

So the rest of us have to put our trains together cafeteria style.

For me the Rapido leg coach is a reasonable stand-in for a N&W class PM coach.
