Kato and B-mann new releases.

In the latest MR B-mann had an ad claiming that their that their PCC trolleys has been re-tooled and with new roadnames.  Anybody know anything about the new tooling?  Any pics besides their ad?

Also Kato not sure if it will be released by Kato JP or Kato USA (yeah I know there's no guarantee that it will make it to the states, if made by Kato JP), but their are plans made to release a Plasser & Theurer Multiple Tie Tamper Item No. 5123501

Any takers on this one?  I think this would make a great addition to any layout as Plasser & Theurer is an international company and their equipment can be found on many railroads across the world.

The Plasser Tamper was released by Hobbytrain earlier this year. Orders were through Wigwag ... so is this a rerun of the Hobbytrain one or a proper Kato version. If you look at Spookshows comments the Hobbytrain version wasn't up to snuff.

What issue is that?  I got the August, 2009 issue and Bachmann's only ad was for the 44 tonner.

I saw the ad for the PCC, but I thought it was for the HO model.  Still rides terribly high, and has coarse details and printed Lionel people in the windows.

I have the tamper, and I probably grade it a little higher than Mark did...maybe a C and most of that just based on it being way overpriced.  For one, pulling power is a non-issue as any of these I've ever seen were stand-alone machines.  It is a quirky model, no doubt, but it looks pretty good and works "good enough".  It is loud, although I'm guessing the lube-issue would help that some.  My only complaint regarding performance is that it stuttered (and occassionally stalled) on any dead-frog turnouts on the layout I ran it on...a layout that typically runs flawlessly.  This doesn't make sense given the length unless they really aren't picking up power from all 8 wheels per the review. (or, the pickup on one end is busted, I suppose)

My overall impression is: it's a pretty good looking model with a very minimal mechanism that would probably be more popular and easier to stomach if it were in the $60-70 range like most other "locomotives".  As it is, at $120 discounted it's priced in "no man's land".  Too expensive for the product, but too cheap to go the next level and utilize brass and put more effort into the mech.  I don't own any brass but have considered the Overland jordan spreader and it seems like this model could have been done for a similar price (~$325) in brass and I probably would have sprung for it.  I bought it because it interested me, I thought it might be a great model, and I figured the chance of another one in n-scale would be slim.

I may be interested in the tamper depending on if it is the same model (looks like it maybe) The only thing I would add to it other than detail and weathering is a laser lining cart.

I noticed that too, but I am hoping they was using the old tooling for the pics.  They have done a good job with some of their newer models, with the exception of the crapola couplers. If other companies can produce decent trolleys and LVRs why not B-mann.  Especially with all the effort they put into the Acela line up.

Just be advised, there is a NON-POWERED version of this thing coming out one of these days from Hobbytrain as well...

I don't think this particular machine used a laser aligning cart, and BTW, many of those carts don't use lasers, but just a bright light!
