You know, years ago, if a modeler wanted something as bad as you seem to, he'd have scratchbuild some by now.

This isn't years ago and you're statement would also apply to Victor and his Atlantic, or any other model for that matter.

Disclaimer: I'm not attacking Victor in any way... 3R brought him into this as an example.

The orange stripe dates back to 1980, it was a requirement on all Canadian service pressurized cars that came about after the Mississauga derailment of Nov. 1979. Eventually they realized that in a bad accident involving fire the paint would just burn off anyway and it wasn't useful (plus other cars that would come in from the USA) and it was dropped.
I haven't seen an orange stripe on a tank car in a while now, but within the last few years you could definately occasionally see older cars that still had it. Since I'll be modelling the early 1980s, I could use a propane car or two with the stripe to service one or two remote propane dealers on the eventual layout.

I'm looking at a 1987/88/89 time frame. Never knew about the reason for the orange stripe, thanks for sharing that bit of info.

WTF is with them!?  ???  How freaking long do we have to wait for something other than an ancient whalebelly LPG tankcar? I can't knock them for the quality of their tankers... just which ones they do 

At least they're gonna be releasing some more undecorated C630's.

Based on what are you making this assumption, 3R? Since you've brought time into the equation, I've wanted them since around 1987/88 having seen many locally on CN, the black w/orange stripe in particular. So it has been a while 

Based on my first contact with "V Please Make an Atlantic M" on the old, old Atlas forum a decade ago, I'd say Victor's been pining for one for at least a quarter century. And he hasn't used phrases like "WTF" and "freaking" every time something is announced that doesn't include an Atlantic.

No problem. Just remember it's for pressurized cars, not a general hazardous materials indicator. Propane, chlorine, etc. are examples of cars that would have it (Atlas has/had one ACFX scheme on their chlorine tank car with the 1980s orange band). Gasoline, acid and other liquid chemicals, no matter how nasty, wouldn't have the orange.
I'm not exactly sure when the requirement was dropped, but certainly in the late 1980s a large majority of cars would have the orange stripe. There'd probably be enough cars without it as well.

I have had a couple GAMX 33K tankcars for LPG this winter that have had this orange stripe. I never knew what it was all about. The one car that comes to mind is GAMX 9550. I don't know why I can remember that particular car, but I know it had the stripe.

Different ends, different outlets, different outside tank construction... and that's if you compare a Trinity NCNI vs a Trinity CI.  I don't think the Athearn car actully represents a Trinity car...

Yeah, several times, even had photos [HO], that's the problem.   PCM has announced several items.  Delivered one.  And it wasn't the M1a.

The Athearn ethanol tankcar doesn't look like the cars Trinity made down the street from me. I'd like the 25K tankcars with the deep eliptical ends(higher pressure design). And moltern sulfur cars and acid cars, and modern LPG cars, and ethelene tankcars....Scratch-bashing a modern LPG car is very hard in N-scale because there isn't much out there to start with. Diameters are wrong, top fittings don't exist, and a dozen other things that prevents even a "stand-in" that passes the 3' test. One of the best attempts I've seen started with three Atlas "beer can" tankers and some styrene turned down to match the diameter of the beer cans. This becomes about a $60 car with problems still.

    Other then 500 gallons more, what's the difference between the new Atlas 25.5 Gal tank car and the Ethanol 30,000 Gal tank car that Athearn released a couple of years ago?

The difference is the Athearn is un-coiled, non-insulated which adds the difference in capacity. If you look at the Trinity sheets for both, the physical dims are very close.

My luck again, I was working on a 26,600 Gallon tankcar.

Again, the Athearn is also not a Trinity design; it's Union Tank Car - which accounts for other differences in hardware, tank saddles, end railings, etc. But both UTC and Trinity ethanol cars would share certain characteristics like capacity, and non-insulated.
