Con Cor UP M 10000 Review

Recieved my Con Cor M10000 today with add on Pullman Car. Con Cor has done a beautiful job like they did on the Pioreer Zeph and Aero Train. Fantastic rivet detail on exterrior. One major error though. The lettering should be Gold with a Black outline which was the way the train was painted when first delivered. Everyone makes the mistake of thinking the lettering scheme has always been Red. To couple every thing together it is the same process as the Aero Train, carefully remove the car bodies to plug the wireing together. Diaphrams are magnetic ,but there is no binding (kinking) like the Aero Train because 1 we have shared trucks,2 the wires are more flexible . Head light and rear markers light up when running. Instructions also show how to remove the body on the power car incase you have to work on the mech. Interrior lighting again is that cool blusih flouresent lighting look.My reason for buying just one of the two add on cars the "Overland Trail" is because that car was displayed with the train at The Century of Progress Exposition in Chicago and while it never ran in service on this train it and the other car modeled were used on the longer M 100001City of Portland train,it makes a nice addation. Included is a very nice reproduction of the color fold out that was issued by the railroad at the Exposition, complete with floor plan diagrams, and color side elevation view of the complete consist. The model runs very smoothly like the Zephyr and the Aero Train locomotive minus AT cars. Now unfortunately I will have to break down and buy the second run when it is issued in the revised color scheme when it operated as the City of Salina. One could I suppose simulate a City of Portland by purchasing a number of extra cars, but I would rather wait to see of Con Cor might consider doing the other longer early trains. A City of Denver, that was  done in HO by Overland would be a Wozzer. The train will back through sharp yard switches if you go slow, yes I have the old Brass Sunset Models N train to compair , detailing is better on Con Cor,train is lighted W/ interriors most importaintly you do not have to modify the articulation between cars to get it to run on sharp or even modist curves, big flaw the Brass train had. Brass train does win on having the correct lettering color. Now a new delema, should I buy a second Zephyr with the big ugly headlight (coming soon) because it will have a mars light feature.                                                                                                                              Nate Goodman (Nato). Bummer on the lettering . I await for mine with 2 add on cars . IIRC the M10001 used 2 extra cars and looked the same I think . With the lettering wrong having a extra 2 cars instead of 1 on the M10000 is small potatoes . How could Con-Cor not know better ? Did they blow it on the HO one as well ? Till you said it I didn't know myself , but I wasn't building one . :-[

Edit , well I can see what you are saying . Every model I find in color on the web has red lettering , and all the prototype shots are in B&W . The error has been copied and copied over and over . Just like UP steam lettering in white when except for the delivered OEM lettering it should be aluminum lief which looks white often .

Yes they also blew it on the HO (read the review in MR) acouple of issues ago. One thing I forgot to add,you cannot operate the train as displayed at the Exposition with the Pullman car first then coach and bufett car. The reason is the coach which is the DCC conversion car(speaker holes in floor) has pins at both ends of its circut board so the power car can be plugged in, but the sleeper then has to be plugged in next if added before the tail car.
