I finished the weathering book!!

Not much for me, but spent all afternoon Saturday at the train club working on the layout there. Little bit of scenery work, a bunch of wiring work on one of the staging yards.
I've also been doing some work on our car card system, correcting some errors in our traffic patterns and updating things. Making some minor changes and improvements to our forwarding system, as well we have a lot of new cars to add and some new traffic pools to use them in. The next time we actually get back to regular operating sessions we should have some interesting new traffic as well as new mainline to run on.

Thanks - it feels pretty good.  I started about a year ago and am proud that I was able to get it to completion. 

For those of you who don't know, David helped me with editing/rewriting.  A bunch of other folks (John, Ed, Chuck, Gregg, and Jamie) sat through endless questions like

-please look at these 15 cover variations and write me a report on which is the best.
-does this look good?
-A or B?
-Hot or Not?
-Will the chromic aberration be apparent in print?

ya......uh huh.......yep...... that book is on the "get at any cost" list - congrat's Tom and team - having seen my own work published (in another field of endevour and in another life it seems) I can only envy you the feeling you willl have when you hold the first copy in your hands !

Weathered my new GP15-1 (though I probably should have waited for Tom's book) and painted the safety rails:



A rare sight indeed; a single ex-PC SD35 hauls a coal drag through CP Lew, taking advantage of the Juniata Division's lack of grades.  Ordinarily a pair of SDs would do the honor.

I've been working on my CSX N scale North mountain subdivision side of my layout this week.


I just completed this rocky cut tonight. It was made out of broken up rock castings blended together with plaster of paris. Then painted with diluted acrylics.




And here is some track and ballast experiments. Ballast is Smith and Son Penn-Ohio
blend #50 grade, I love this stuff! The track is Micro Engineering n scale code 55.

If you can imagine a 1/4" square of balsa that is only 4" long, then you know how big this set is:

They are T gauge "shorty" RDCs. Full length model would be pretty easy to make, but they won't go around the curves so shorty is better than nothing...

Hot damn, Chris!! Knowing  the size, thats the most amazing piece of work I' ve seen in years. You need to photograph that next to a Kato N scale RDC and send the pix to MR. Bet they'll pay good money for an article on that.

Geez Chris thats some great etchings and work . This is why you wanted end detail shots of the RDC a month ago or so . I think that if your abilities are this good in T scale you really haven't been challenged to your abilities . Whats holding you back is the unavailability of a smaller scale drive train I guess . Decals are another hang up . You could whip out an entire passenger train using that etching process I guess . Outstanding and amazing .

I agree with Gregg (3rdRail) I would like to see this on a MTL Flatcar or something to punch the wee of it .
