With the 100 degree weather here in NJ today - and recovering from an early summer flu (or re-infected with Lyme Disease for the fifth time), I spent the day in the cool basement and completed the first of two 75' mainlines. Only one feeder is connected, but everything works well, although there are a lot of solder joints to clean up and rails to clean.

The second main will be much easier, since a good chunk of main 1 is hidden. The two come together for about 40 feet as a double track rr through the more urbanized section of the RR.

As previously mentioned the whole thing is Atlas Code 55, which I really like. I realized today an easy way to add railjoiners on the end of flex track (using a section of straight section track as an insertion tool).

Anyway, this may not be the beginning of the end, but it is certainly the end of the beginning!!!

Most annoyingly it looks like #5 for Lyme for me...  The wife pulled a deer tick off me last week and over the weekend I developed the familar symptoms. 

Hunterdon County, NJ is the #1 Lyme Disease capitol of the world - thanks to the fact that hunters are rarely allowed on most property and the damn things reproduce in huge herds. Fortunately I've always caught it in stage one, although almost everyone around here has had it - and many people I know have been very sick from the later stages.

Time to napalm the woods here...

RANT: When are people (including some hunters) going to learn that just letting deer breed forever and ever leads to problems...? Haven't heard of anything like Lyme though, just complete destruction of forests from deer browsing on anything and everything.

The store owner(Fearless Leader) had Lyme diseise two years ago, caught in the early stages, but it took the stuffing out of him for a good while. Just a little Malathion wipes out ticks...but we might hurt a snail darter!!! Since Rachel Carson got DDT removed from the market, over 700 MILLION people have died from mosquito borne illnesses,mostly in the poorest parts of the world. Could our priorities be a bit screwed-up? Now that West Nile Virus and viral encephalitius has made it to the US, do you think mosquito control might become a popular thing again?

Well at least the Mosquito has been saved from extinction!

Yep, the cycle is   mouse-tick-deer or something like that. Around here it is the tiny deer tick that always carries it.  We always check for ticks, which is how I caught it before I even got (slightly) sick. Not to worry, four weeks on antibiotics on Doxycycline (pills that look like something you would give to a horse) and all is better.

But seriously, I have to try to get rid of the ticks, or put up a fence or something.

I could probably find one of the old Nam Phantom pilots and we could lay-down a napalm strike in the woods. No ticks, fleas, mosquitoes, houses, cars, small amoured vehicles for a couple of thousand meters. ;D Might hurt property values a bit.
