Title: New Atlas and BLMA items in at MBK
Post by: reinhardtjh on March 31, 2016, 12:36:43 AM
The BLMA 60' flats and Trinity tanks are in a MBK and therefore probably also in or nearly in at other favorite shops

Thrall Gondolas (http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/N-Scale-52-53-Gondola-Cars-s/1800.htm?searching=Y&sort=3&cat=1800&brand=Atlas&show=120&page=1)

Trainman Ore cars (http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/N-Scale-Ore-Cars-s/1482.htm?searching=Y&sort=3&cat=1482&show=30&page=1&brand=Atlas%20Trainman)

GSC 60' Flats (http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/N-Scale-60-Flat-Cars-s/1813.htm?searching=Y&sort=3&cat=1813&brand=BLMA&show=120&page=1)

TrinityRail 31K Tanks (http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/N-Scale-30-000-Gallon-Tank-Cars-s/1948.htm?searching=Y&sort=3&cat=1948&brand=BLMA&show=120&page=1)

[...sigh...]

That tooling has been around for a long, long while. I've collected these for 47 years in a quest for a prototype-length train, and still have original boxes from 1969 with price stickers of "$1.75". Maybe a bit crude by today's standards, but I do find it amazing that this little model has endured and continues to be in demand after nearly five decades.

I'm in the hunt for them now, In NP, GN pool color, and DMIR. I have 25 total, I need about 75 to 100 for a prototypical length train, with more NP than the others, from what I can tell.

The tankers look great. This is shaping up to be a very expensive year for me: Trainworx trailers (UPS), BLMA tankers, more Trainworx trailers (Fedex, and more?), IM 3281 hoppers, BLMA 5660 hoppers, Scale Trains containers...   :o

One thing that infuriated me with BLMA is its near schizophrenic focus on either transition erase or ultra modern cars, with nothing in the middle. I really hope that Atlas can backdate the tanks without the protective shields. We really need more quality pre-qualification era modern tanks.

BLMA has one transition era car.

Unless you really stretch and count the flats that came off the line in 1956 as "transition" since there were still a couple class one roads running the occasional steam engine- in which case, they have 2.  It actually seems to me that they have spread their product line pretty evenly over the decades, other than (maybe?) missing something originally built in the 80s.

Truth is, I'd be happy to see them make MORE transition era cars.

Infuriated is a bit of a strong word there, no?

Pretty much a ditto here.

BLMA can keep right on going with their selections for models to make as far as I am concerned. I love the offerings. Oh, well, er, yea. Nevermind.

Ignoring the flat cars, they've done a TON of middle ground stuff man.

That's the majority of their models.

Trying to scratch up some cash for a few of these.   I've been spending my pennies lately on 2x4s, plywood, and a bulk flextrack order.

I wish Atlas would do a 6-pack or 12-pack of GN ore cars, brown with yellow ends or just brown.

They've done 12-packs of their coal hoppers, so why not with their ore cars?

Personally, I like the fact that BLMA did contemporary stuff .. I model what I see on the rails today, and there is a need for good quality modern stuff ... don't be a hater :)

Considering Craig is a young guy it should be no surprise BLMA focused on the modern era.

I just hope we will see BLMA trucks again...
I know I bitch alot about it, but I really, really love those trucks... I absolutely do not mind paying $5 for a pair, I am in this hobby for the realism, (or close to it, I may not count rivets but I'll be damned if my rolling stock sits to high or has the wrong truck type on them... So call me a defect detector!  :D )

I have a 30 car ore train for my lead/silver mines, mixed GN and NP, and did custom decals for the GN cars.  Atlas had the NP in stock, so I included NP style numbers on the decals, but the GN was long out of production.

Naturally, they reran them a couple years later...

Put MT 905 couplers on them and they'll couple much closer, especially if the draft gear is recessed a little extra, with the pin at the end of the car.  They still work fine with regular N MT couplers.
