A unusable dead ended turnout? ???
-
It's funny, I just saw where that belongs Chris!
(I'm in NYC for the weekend, and it's visible from the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel)

It wasn't in the Bronx, it was right next to Penn Station:

If I modeled the Erie terminal in the Bronx I'd have 7" radius curves, I didn't want that.

Aha! this explains it.
From his site:
"If you look closely in the CAD drawing there are two rails protruding from the right side of the lower turnout. These rails led into the engine house and never actually crossed through the turnout, they crossed over it. To get to the engine house the crew had to lay steel rail across the top of the turnout, and drive over it!"

Here is the CNJ Terminal that Tim is modeling:

Very nice work , and the nuttiest arrangement I ever saw .

That guy's work is superb. I was following his progress in HO, which was short one major section. I guess I fell behind the times. Gonna go take a look at this code 40 work.
Thanks for the refresher.
