So, what have you accomplished this week. For me, I completed all the cork on the layout addition. Just waiting on the flex track to get here now.

I've completed four of my 12 SP 40' Yellow Stripe Rebuilt Box Cars. They won't be quite prototypical as the replacement sides weren't exactly the best. Once decaled and weathered, they should look the part.

In addition to my passenger flat car project I also finished ( well, I have some grabs to apply and a light coat of weathering) my Canadian Pacific Heavy weight baggage car. This is the one I've agonized over the panel doors and finally decided that "good enough will have to be"... besides, if I get a brainwave at a later date I can pop em out.... ;D
The Scalecoat CPR was too purple for my tastes; although as was pointed out it may be accurate for a new car; mine was to be alomist 50 year old so I darkened the car with washes of PRR tuscan and rail brown.

A LifeLike/Industrial Rail $2.99 job. The car was printed directly on unpainted brown plastic, so I hit it with Dullcote before attacking it with washes. Natural light in the back yard.

Havnt been getting much done in a timely manner, but have been doing a few minutes a week for seven or eight months to get a small portion of my diorama closer to completion. Man this sounds so pathetic...! Oh well....

And thanks! The ground cover is a hodgepodge of some dirt (under the grasses and ground foam), some organic stuff I ground up, some ballast (highball, I think) grasses applied with the Noch Grass thingie, some grass tufts from MiniNatur (Scenic Express), light, select dustings of ground foam and some tiny twigs and stuff.... The parking lot is an acrylic material that dries a bit like fine pumice that is then stained and "blotch painted".
Today, as the shadows grow longer, there is new activity at the Sunrise siding....

Well, modeling the D&RGW a few months from the end of steam operations in 1956, I needed a couple of steam locos. The Rio Grande used 3600 class 2-8-8-2s #3609 and #3612 as helpers from Denver to the East Portal of the Moffat Tunnel in October '56, the period I am modeling. So, I bought a couple of Bachmann tenders and decaled and weathered them for the above locos. They are permanent roundhouse scenery and imply operating steam locomotives. Dog houses were made from a simple block of styrene. The windows in the dog house doors were drawn on with a black sharpie. The rear numbers were the only decals applied, no herald was put on the sides as these aren't visible. Only the tender deck and rear part of the tenders were weathered.

Jason, amazing snow plow! Is it a kit or a scratchbuild ?
It's just a Walther's plow with some scratchbuilt details added so far. I don't want to say too much at this point 'cause I am hoping to make this my first article for publication. I think/hope there will enough of a dramatic change when it's done to be interesting.
At this point, I'm concerned that I won't be able to explain the techniques very well because they're pretty much trial and error (and luck with patience).
We'll see.

Well, I got one half of the bridge structure completed. I also have all of the remaining floorbeams and posts so the second half should go quickly. Now to add all of the horizontal and diagonal eyebars.

Nice job!! That's the way they usually looked - filthy. Too bad Doug and Claus didn't do an older door version as well...Not all got the "porthole" doors.

As I promised myself, time for some real modeling this weekend. This little accomplishment was actually more important for me than for the layout. The last several projects I've undertaken have not gone well; eyesight is going and I'm starting to develop mild hand tremors. So, this progress was especially significant, as my confidence was starting to erode.
Here's a Z scale freelanced station, under construction. It is heavily bashed from two Micro Structures kits; the windows are actually N scale from Scale Link. The back entrance was the most work--it is made from doors left over from a Shire Scenes kit, plus Scale Link windows, plus Micro Structures windows (the irony is all of that work winds up facing away from normal view--oh, well). Seen here painted, with the weathering just begun.

Oh man, that's awesome! If that overpass didn't say "Western Maryland" on it, I'd SWEAR that was Ringoes.
I had forgotten I had left him there for work. I guess I'll need to get another chip there by the 7th for the RDG GP35 that you promised "while I wait" :-)

I ordered the only other two from Chuck that he had, a CN and a CN-GP. I used the CN in the RS-1. I swapped one of Bob's CN's to replace yours, which I fried. I'm swapping that for the GP to put into his RS-3, which works fine.
The other CN-GP you sent will also be swapped to Bob, since the straight CN will work in the SD-40. You'll need another CN-gp for the 35, though. I can make the CN work, but it involves dremeling out the back of the number board casting, which can be a little tricky.
When I get the warranty replacement chip, that'll go into my other C-424, which is still waiting it's turn at the paint shop.
Are you going to have that Geep painted out? Extra points if you do!

Should I paint it out by then? I was thinking I was going to wait until I pick up my 30 so I can have a trio of fresh paint for a photo op, then ruin em all.

Good thinking. Then you have to wait until you have all three with decoders installed, and bring them down to pull the westbound AJ from Rutherford, get serviced at Hagerstown, and run back east and into oblivion...

Thanks I originally gave this a nice bright coat of tuscan red... figured it wouldn't do for a head-end car so broke out the roof brown ;D
