A messy workbench is a sure sign of a busy (and happy) modeler - nothing to be ashamed of!   :D

I started work on Conrail 6707. It's getting the normal detail parts as well as flexicoil trucks. The trucks turned out to be a bit trickier to get to work right but I think the effort will be worth it.

I soldered twenty 0402 white LEDs to magnet wire last night. Now to cast a whole bunch of ditch lights.

Final shots of the Kanto station before its planted.....

The platform is hand laid strip wood so that took a little bit of time but I like the effect.

Now to plant it....
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Wow that was fast, and a very nice looking product. I have drawings for a few CPR stations I would like to build one day. I hope they look as nice as yours.

Very nice!
Yes, the plank-by-plank method is a PITA, but there's nothing else that can produce all the little variations of angle, rise, & color (especially as it allows you to stain the planks ahead of time).
Definitely worth it!

The station looks great, too: lots of character.
Are you going to weather it with powders/washes before you install?

And here I thought you came over and cleaned the drain in my daughters bathroom. Seriously though, that's got to be some tedious work..

Yes it is a huge PITA. That's why I do many at once. When I need them and they are not done I usually set the project aside and do something else. I have to be in the mood to solder these tiny things.

I've been taking my annual 4th Quarter break from working on the layout, but I did pick up this house in Hope, ID this weekend. The cantilever is guarding the east end of Hope siding on MRL's 4th Sub between Sandpoint and Missoula. Looking forward to some summer BBQ's while trains roll by (assuming there are any trains still running and the economy hasn't completely collapsed by then!).

Nice. Drove right by in Summer '14 on a vacation trip.

A decent amount of milling. I used Atlas Sd35 trucks with Kato SD40 side frames. The gear towers on the Sd35 trucks are longer than the SD50 trucks so I had to cut away a decent amount around the truck centers. I need to try testing if Kato trucks fit into it to save having to get both the Sd40 and SD35 trucks. The only issue I've run into is that the truck centers are off, maybe a scale inch or two, but I'm just happy to have correct trucks. I plan to do some cutting on a SD40-2 to get a correct CR SD40-2 as well.

I'm not holding my breath but if IM does the correct trucks for their CR SD40-2s that would probably same a lot of effort.

Any chance of seeing Shapeways Flexcoils for the HTC geartower?

There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

I've thought about doing some side frames. I've been very tempted back dating the layout to early 90's CR so I may need an easier option for trucks.
