@Ed Kapuscinski,

Whoa!  I know how you feel.  I've been holding back on adding a steam locomotive to the roster for a few years now.  I was always considering a Bachmann model of the 1980s-era #611, since the prototype was in excursion service in the 1980s.  But, I never pulled the trigger.

Today, MBK put this up: http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/Bachmann-N-2-10-3-p/bac-83356.htm.  Seriously?!  $129.99 for a steam locomotive that is supposed to be a decent runner . . . and with DCC!  I'm fighting the urge big time.  Hopefully, someone will tell me its minimum radius is waaaaay above the minimum of my layout.  That would save me.

I think you kinda have to. Then get some MTL heavyweights for its excursion train.

They have the 80's-90's 611 with aux tender for $139.99  http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/Bachmann-N-Class-J-4-8-4-NW-p/bac-82154.htm  The 611 is a decent runner also, maybe not as good as the 2-10-2, but okay.  I believe it also may have been updated fairly recently.

Also $113.95 at The Favorite Spot  http://www.thefavoritespot.com/p-2350-bachmann-n-scale-train-steam-4-8-4-j-class-dcc-ready-norfolk-western-611-82154.aspx

And possibly cheaper if you watch the auctions at The Favorite Spot's Ebay store  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bachmann-N-Scale-Train-4-8-4-J-Class-DCC-Ready-Norfolk-Western-611-82153-/191641204039
