I researched this issue online and discovered how to change the settings, so the iPhone takes pictures in JPEG format.

Thanks,

On the iPhone, go into "Settings" and then scroll down to "Camera."

Click on "Formats" and change the camera capture from High Efficiency (which is HEIF) to "Most Compatible" (which is JPEG).

Hope this helps,

Since I started this thread, I'll add what I've found.  It doesn't matter what the file type is, or apparently the file size.  Files that were previously uploaded (before server move) now do not load (invalid file type error), and files less than 4.77mb ( listed on the error screen as max size) do not load.  But if you resize the file to 1024 wide, everything will load fine.

I’m pretty sure it’s just a time out issue.  I just haven’t had chance to look into it.

Well, I'm batting about 0.500 with photos being successfully uploaded to TRW.  They're definitely JPEGs on my phone now, so I'm assuming that I need to resize the photos.  I haven't a clue how to do that yet.

Well, I looked and the  new server has a max upload size of 2MB - so that is why everyone is having problems since the switch.  I will look into changing it.

edit: changed to 8MB. remember me in your wills.

@tom mann.  Thank you, but you don't need to fund this out of your own personal pocket.  I'm more than happy to learn how to reduce my uploaded photos, if it helps.

EDIT: FYI, the enlarged photo size seems to have taken care of my issue.  I successfully loaded a picture that was rejected last night.  Thanks, again.

I still resize the images to 1200 pixels across.  I’m just hoping that the majority of people do that themselves before the upload so that the Railwire server isn’t overtaxed resizing 8 MB pictures all day long.

8 MB photos are bigger than the internet.

How does one resize to 1200 pixels? Is this something I can do on an iPhone or do I need special software?

Tried yesterday and today to upload one image into Dr Hotballs in Narrow Gauge and both failed. Screen went blank (white).
Still using same Samsung phone as past posts.

How about simply changing your schmart-phone camera's settings to take smaller size photos.  Nobody forces you to take them using the camera's maximum resolution. There should be a way to change that setting on your phone. Then you won't need to resize anything.

Not sure about resizing apps for your phone, but if you Google "image resizing" or similar you should find lots of ways to do that (some probably even online).  I use Corel Draw on my PC but any graphical app on a computer should be capable of resizing images.

For simple resizing, cropping and color correction, try IrfanView.  Longtime Freeware that is quick loading, not bloated and easy.
