Well it came a little early(from the OKC train show) but I got two NW-2's in Santa Fe and the 5 "camp cars" in On30. The camp cars should look good behind the Climax.

Lotsa stuff this year, mostly via Chulvis. First delivery was a Walthers 0-8-0, then yesterday, four Atlas billboard reefers, CGW, Stokely, White Rock, and Meeters Sauerkraut, along with two city water towers from Walthers and an icing platform from Bar Mills. Still to come, three DeLuxe Innovations PRR boxcars.

And that's just the model railroad stuff... 8)

I'm in the process of collecting N scale again. So far this month Santa has brought me Kato CB&Q NW2, Spectrum R.I. 2-8-0 and 33 Micro Trains cars.

Now Santa says to get a layout built ;D ;D ;D ;D

Well, if my avatar does not give it away, I am a huge Rock Island fan. See the Introductions thread for more info. Anyway, since the Rock doesn't exist anymore, I have followed the railroad in Iowa that has taken over a lot of the Rock Island's former trackage, the Iowa Interstate (IAIS). There aren't a lot of offerings in N scale for the IAIS, so I had a GP38 done by a friend on a yahoo group. Behold this beauty!
I love that herald on the nose.

Several years ago, I won an SW1200 in FEC livery. Well, since I have no intentions of modeling Florida, that is being shipped off to the same guy who will transform it into IAIS' former #250, which just recently was sold to one of the big ethanol plants in Iowa. I hope to have that back by Spring.

We exchange "family" gifts on Christmas eve (leaving Christmas morning to the big jolly guy).

Nothing on my train "list" but train stuff I still like:  an Athearn CSX auto-rack (from my younger son) and a "holiday" box car (from my older son).  I've been secretly desiring the CSX auto-racks to add to my Atlas ones.  I'm always in favor of the occasional "cute" holiday or special car so both were great.  I enjoy fun trains.

Only issue was that the wheels on the middle truck of the Athearn autorack rubbed on the body--the car "dragged" down the track, squeaking and groaning.  Also, one of the wheel sets on that truck was "wobbly."  Typical Athearn.  No problem.  Swapped out the wheel and then fashioned a washer from some plastic tubing to increase the height between the truck and car body.  Now works fine.

My other gift, the BIG gift, from my far superior half, was a low f-stop zoom lens for my DSLR.  I hopefully can now photograph my boys gymnastics meets (in crappy low light gym conditions).  All in all, a wonderful set of gifts, with a wonderful church service earlier tonight.  Now just waiting for the boys to fall asleep so that Santa can drop off gifts.

Big Boys and the SP Daylight Train.     Nate Goodman(Nato). In a Snowy Salt Lake, Utah. Brrrrrrr!

I got no hobby related stuff, but I did score brownie points when she 'unwrapped' her 2001 Mustang GT convertible.  17000 miles and under 15000 bucks.  I just hope that IM starts taking preorders on their cab forward before the car becomes just a car!

I got about 20 mpg of oil, and 40 mpg of gas; for about 25 miles.

Seven quarts of oil and 6 miles later, I made it home without a tow truck.

Good enough for me.

I also had an awesome Christmas.

My first Fox River box (they're tough to find round these parts), an AN box that I'm pretty sure says "If lost, return to Gregg c/o AN Port St. Joe" on there somewhere, a FRTS Gift Certificate for all that stuff that's coming soon, and my absolute favorite (and I'm sure source of future derision), a Bachmann "Modern" 4-4-0.

(http://lh6.google.com/ed.kapuscinski/R3FYe5HBFDI/AAAAAAAAEUs/Lt24Dveh8cU/s400/IMG_6816.JPG) (http://picasaweb.google.com/ed.kapuscinski/NewBachmann440/photo#5147993136810759218)

I'm not 100% sure what I'm going to do with it, but here's one of my biggest sources of inspiration:

Santa used three different mail order outfits. FRTS ran by drunk elf named CHULVIS really
came through. Nu-Line warehouse, detail parts and then my daughter used Walthers and
more detail parts and some rolling stock and my wife used Internet Trains. Ordered Dec 2
and nothing yet - Dig this - They are waiting on BLMA stuff to ship. They are in Brea, CA
right next door to Fullerton where Craig's company is. The item I thought Santa would
have a problem with, Walthers Cornerstone ADM grain elevator, they actually have. Sucks
when you have to track your own gifts. Anyway, off for the week. Gonna work on a web
site for the layout.

Best Christmas gift of all:  Time to clear out one of the rooms in the basement so at least part of Spencer can be reassembled.  That's the goal for tomorrow.   ;D

Received a new Dell, 2.4Ghz dual core processor laptop with all the goodies.  Train related? Of course, I will use it to write and test JMRI scripts for my new layout.  It will also run Train Simulator, and a friend in Canada has built the exact route of the FJ&G to use in the simulator, so I can now run, with simulator, the exact layout I am building. Neat!

i bought my first airbrush last year to paint the rails of my N-Trak module and haven't used it since.  my plan is to strip the C630 shells and give them a nice coat of Brunswick green.  if it doesn't work out, the shells are available from Atlas :)

I got a Pentrex Montana Rail Link DVD, an Atlas Dash 8-40B in LMX livery, and then I also bought myself a Digitrax decoder for the 8-40B, a Loksound micro sound decoder that I'm going to try to cram in one of the two SD-45's I picked up off ebay that I will be detailing and painting for MRL.  Not bad for me! I've asked for train stuff for years and never recieved anything so I'm happy that I actually got some trains stuff this year.

Oh yeah, I also spent christmas in Missoula, MT and was able to spend a little time railfanning the MRL there. I got some video and pictures that I'm sure will help my layout.

I just hate cordless circular saws. I love my cordless drills, jigsaw, sawzalls, but circular suck. My battery one with a fresh and charged battery would barely get through one length cut on a 4x8 1/2" plywood sheet.

I don't hate cordless tools.  I just hate cheap cordless tools.
As of now.... I don't think I own anything else 'cordless'.  I've either broken, stripped for components, given away, or trashed all of them.

SquirrelHollow, I thought the "even-fire 3.8L" was the worst GM V-6 ever made, but the 2.8 is probably a close second. ANY inline 4 GM ever made was a mistake. Busted knuckles on 3.8's and 4 bangers of my cousin's. I used to be his mechanic, but I retired. Kinda shame, since he's got a big Mercury with the 4.6L...not another worn-out piece of crap....yet. ::)

I'd like to submit a correction.  While reading the new replies to this topic, I realised I had forgotten about a very important automotive milestone.  You know... one of those stones that gets half way up the hill and rolls back down on you.
The Cadillac V8-6-4 holds my vote for worst engine ever.  Never heard of one have ya?  There's a reason.

The GM 2.8L V6 holds a very solid second.

I've never worked on the old 90* 3.8s.  The 60* version, though, I have a lot of experience with.  I really respect that engine.  Terrible accessory design, but they run forever and get nice mileage doing it.  Man, that hurt to say.  I hate GM.
