Is hotness.

Who did it?

How'd they do it? (looks like a bunch of Bachmann parts.)

...with a couple of these and a new number, that loco would exceed hotness:

Correct, as Chris333 said, that is Russell Straw's 4-8-0 locomotive.  He stretched a Bachman Spectrum 2-8-0.  :-)

Hi, all,

Russ reported the following on the N&W 4-8-0 over on Trainboard.

Russ Straw:  "I was running trains on the NTRAK layout, and I was having trouble with the pilot truck on the 4-8-0 steamer that I kit bashed from a Bachmann Consolidation. I added weight to the pilot truck but that did not help."

JSing:   Here's a photo of the 4-8-0 that I took, so that we can try to visualize what Russ is talking about:

Russ Straw: "However, I let the Hans Starmans, the steam guru from the Netherlands, analyze the problem and he figured it out right away. There was not enough play to allow the truck much rocking motion front to back on rough track. I put a "Z" bend in the link that holds the pilot truck to the frame and it fixed the problem. Man, that guy is amazing. He had a PRR Atlantic that he is working on that had tender drive. I saw it pulling a 30+ car coal train."

JSing:  This is the guy that Russ Straw was talking about, if you ever see him or get to speak to him, IMHO he is among
the top worldwide experts in skill and experience in building and running custom N scale steam, which he has been doing
for 20+ years for his worldwide clients.   I believe more in the N scale world should know who he is  :-)  :

Hope this is helpful and interesting to this topic.

Absolutely. I saw the pic of Hans in your gallery and was surprised how young he is!

I need to come up with a solution for the pilot truck on Dave's K4.  That's got to be the worst engineered mess I've ever seen.  It's like they WANT it to derail.
