Snow Day!

Forum,

Well, here on the east coast of the U.S., we're experiencing a Nor'easter, giving us our best snowfall in several years.  Woo hoo!  Snow day!

So, if you're snowed in, do you plan to get a little extra modeling in today?  I'm going to try to start planning a new layout.  I want to model the RF&P's double-track line but am realizing that I just cannot fit in everything that I want to.  Instead, I think I am going to stick with the C&O's single-track Piedmont Subdivision (the inspiration for my present door layout) and its interchange with the RF&P at Doswell, VA, just as Bernie Kempinski did in his design featured in Model Railroad Planning 2000 (pp. 42-45).  The only difference is that I want to figure out a way to squeeze in at least a loop, rather than make the RF&P an interchange only with a non-operational mainline.  This way I can stretch the legs of my RF&P equipment but have the C&O rails designed for operations.

By the way, as you can see, I can waffle with the best of them.  Here is my new self-proclaimed identity as "The Waffler":

What's everyone up to today?

Hallelujah!!  I've forgotten what real snow looks like and how nice it is.  My office opens at noon so in the morning I will:

- go for a quick ski & walk the dogs (maybe at the same time),
- finish renovating my basement,
- finish planning my lower level terminal trackage,
- paint my spine cars.
 :D

I bet those southerners out on the shore are even getting some of the white stuff today, eh?

Great idea!  Unfortunately, though, I don't have any trackplanning software (I have a Mac), so I have no way of putting a plan online for constructive criticism.  But I really could use the help.

I called in to see what kind of permit I need to build a snowman.  In honor of Steve's dedication to public service, I'll have the children fashion it in his likeness.

Good on you. Gotta keep the state safe :) .. I never understood why we shut down the state at the first sign of a flake or two ..

I stayed home and I don't feel guilty.  The state and county did no plowing on the side streets or the main roads around here.  What good is it if I95 and the beltway are clear and everything else is snowed in.  Back in my navy days I would be up early and into work (and I was never an essential person).  Got plenty of leave so no problem for me.

I'll be going into work at the usual time 1:00pm.
I just hope the roads are clear because driving in a small pickup in the snow SUCKS!(unless you WANT to do doughnuts on the highway)
I'm going back in the attic to run some trains 'till then.

The view from my toasty warm living room... The joys of having a 13-year old boy!

We've had about six inches of snow, but it's blowing and drifting now.  Since I don't have a thirteen-year-old servant, I get to shovel it myself, plus I'll try to get to my parents' home to shovel them out.

Snowfall here in Baltimore barely more than a dusting ... kids get the day off but not me.

Still hoping for a real snowstorm here (it's been a few years - we're overdue).

I love winter scenery, what did you guys use for snow?
We were lucky here in St. Louis, the snow slid right past us Saturday, only a couple of flakes.
Although there are a lot more then just a few flakes living here.
