Oh great!  We really need another one of either type!  Excellent marketing strategy. :D

They had a sample of the hood at the spring show in Denver.  I think got a shot of it. It's a late NW2 with a sloped hood instead of the stepped hood like the Kato.

Now my mission is to get BLI to do at least one of the 3 CGW units that match.  They didn't bother in HO.

None of the others were offered with sound.  Since sound is BLI's thing, I assume that's the difference.  It also means that they have done a lot of work shrinking their Paragon series decoders.

Finally someone figures out that this is the way to weight 4 axles switchers so the run.

So one big question now is will there be two different cabs.  The late NW2s still had the large windows unlike the photo above.

edit: the teaser shot shows the NW2 cab, so I hope that's my answer...

To be fair, the Arnold S-2 from almost 30 years ago had not only a metal hood, but an entirely solid-slug metal body with only a cavity hollowed out of it just big enough to clear the motor and gearing.

LOL, you beat me to mentioning this.  I have also seen other older European prototype models with metal shells.

Isn’t the Atlas S2 shell also metal?

If I recall correctly, photos showing the shell variations have been posted from at least one show where BLI previewed the NW2 and SW7 shells.
There is an NW2 cab with the high arched windows and an SW7 cab with the small flat top windows.   Both the NW2 (partial height radiator intake) and SW7 (full height radiator intake) have the later sloped shell vs. the stepped slope of the Kato Ph I and Bachmann Ph  I.
The parts tooled can be used to represent NW2 Ph V and SW7 Ph I and Ph 2 units.
I have lost track of the number of roadnames, paint schemes variations and road numbers offered on the BLI HO NW2 / SW7; but to me one of the advantages of BLI doing the unit is that you'll likely see things like IHB, KCS, B&O (Pere Marquette Scheme), C&EI, ACL, SAL, B&O (Cumberland Shops), C&S, N&W (ex WAB Blue) besides the obligatory UP, ATSF and PRR….and they have factory sound.
Hopefully we'll see them next weekend at the N Scale Enthusiast Convention in Chicago!!

Did anyone catch this little detail on BLI's P70 page?
  • Compatible Tracks: Code 83 and 100 Rail
  • In 2019, I would have thought that Code 55 would be the baseline.

Maybe some marketing genius simply copy/pasted the space specs from their H0 model?  I've seen this happen more than once (not to mention H0 model photos being used as stand-in for N scale).
