Two thoughts on BLI's new N scale 2-8-0

I just noticed that BLI didn't offer its new freelanced 2-8-0 in Pennsy.

That might just mean that a proper Pennsy H-class 2-8-0 might be planned after all!

I did order one in LIRR because why not, but then I was thinking... Could one of these be a decent stand-in for a Huntingdon & Broad Top Mountain 2-8-0?

It kind of splits the difference in appearance, valve gear, and cylinders between the various H&BTM 2-8-0s, but since I model Huntingdon... Gears are turning.

They have been asked and have given the usual "If the standard 2-8-0 does well" answer.  Not doing a PRR in this release may have been strategic thinking in that having it missing might cause a build up of demand for a PRR version since even buying a "foobie" version could steal sales from a true PRR H-class.

I reserved 3 of this run thinking that if BLI releases the H-class then I could use them as possible targets for the C&O G-7/G-9 2-8-0 class engines.  But realized that the C&O drivers are 56" while the PRR are 62" so it may not look right.  On the other hand if BLI doesn't do the H-class any time soon then they might be a 3D print away from being usable for the PRR.

Originally all of the LIRR H10's had Lines west tenders.  Some ended up with 80F81a tenders after stokers were added that had the brakeman's doghouse.

Oh, I know it's a total foobie. I ordered the LIRR one since I'm a Long Island kid originally, knowing it's a foob. I suppose I could go back in and cancel that order and pre-order an undec for the H&BTM (also a foobie). Or not.

1. You NEED to do an H&BT version. Honestly, I'd say it's a great use for your LIRR one after they do the actual H10. Why do you need an H&BT consol? Because I want to see one and I'm not going to do it myself (I'm saving mine to be a MA&PA engine).
2. I'm almost 100% certain that, as long as these actually sell, BLI will be doing the H10. I think they've said as much.

Since it (supposedly) has the H10 chassis, I would say it's a safe bet that we'll (eventually) see the PRR H10.

I just emailed Trainworld to change my pre-order from LIRR to Undec.

It's gonna be H&BTM 34! Fortunately that'll just need a Microscale yellow alphabet set to pull off.



It's interesting to note that in later years they tended to use just "H&BT" without the "M."

Concor learned this with disastrous consequences on its 2-10-2 - they made the drivers the correct 63" and stretched the wheelbase a scale 28".

Hmmmm.... I've been happy with my BLI 2-8-2. Might order one for shits and giggles. Maybe a Undec to make a SBL, or maybe a NP one?
I dunno, Gotta think about it.

That Con-cor blip actually has the advantage that you can use that mechanism for an ATSF Madame Queen with one of Adams shells you have to add a four wheel rear truck and change out the from truck with one that is correctish and use the 3D printed tender in place of the Con-Cor one.
