Weekend Update 10/6/24

Back home after a wonderful trip back to the UK in celebration of my recent retirement.  Dayliner and I visited six preserved railways in southern England which was most enjoyable.

SECR 01 Class No. 65 on the Bluebell Railway:

Retirement now starts in earnest so time to get back to some modelling projects!

Working on another Southwest ‘Mother Road’ T-TRAK single module.
This one features a Woodland Scenics drive-in kit with custom decals inspired by Delgadillo’s Snow Cap in Seligman,AZ.
This one is soaking up a lot of decals and I haven’t even started on the service station structure yet.

Looks great, Bruce!  I did more work on my T trak module, too. I used static grass for the first time ever.



I did the upper above track area first.  The static grass didn't go on like I had hoped.  Then I realized I didn't turn on the applicator.    Waiting ten minutes and vacuuming the grass to make it stick up saved that predicament.  I did the below track front area next.  That worked much better. 

It's nice to finally be nearing the end.  I only have ~20 more trees to make, paint a little black touchup to the front, and I need to design a name plate.

Continue to work on the Farmers Coop kit that is ten years old, needed to rough it up a bit.

It was a nice weekend for Ops on the White Pine Sub. Had a couple of guest operators. They did a great job moving freight!

HO Scale More work on the F40M-2F

N scale: Worked on more custom passenger cars.
A stand in NYC Baggage cars, first attempt at cutting off skirts, Removing some lettering on PRR Cars to re stencil to PC.

Finally (after about 18 years) framed my CR decal stencil I nabbed off of eBay. Need to still work on my display case a bit, but I'm enjoying finally having a place to admire some of my collection.


Also was digging out some old locos. Missed my calling modeling Mingo Junction in 1977...

I did a lousy job with the brass caboose, at least for close up photography.


Too impatient to do things the right way..  lots of Mod Podge smudges because I tried to reassemble before I should have.

The dappled finish, however, gives the old girl a nice patina.  The story is that this cabin car is a PRR hand me down after being damaged in a wreck.  Hence the bendy grip rails.  After being rehabbed in the Laurel Valley back shops, it was painted hastily with a roller, and after a few months of service, now looks like this.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I hate rigging. Finished up the first prototype print of the Bucyrus bucket shovel. Did I mention how much I hate rigging?

Need to pick up some black number decals for the four additional units still to be built.







Some pics on the waterfront. Decided to move the small office to the other side of the gravel road. Trying to decide if I should install concrete down low up front and across the tracks for loading/unloading of barges.

The cabs are pretty much done, just waiting for some Atlas/BLMA window wipers. Also milling the noses of the donor chassis to accept nose LEDs. The cabs are equipped with fibre optic headlights and lenses.

Over the last month or so I have posted pictures of my grandson Nathan helping out with the scenery in the Clarion River Junction area.  We are on the HOMES Club Layout Tour tomorrow here in the Golden Horseshoe area of Southern Ontario and Nathan badly wanted to have the water installed in the river inlet.  He came up Wednesday night and I had him watch the Woodland Scenics Deep Pour Water video and then he undertook to do the mixing and pouring. 

In the photo we see two brand new 6300 class SD45's leading freight #262 over the Clarion River bridge.  The water that Nathan poured came out great.  Once the tour is over we will be applying the Ripple Effects. 

I will try to post some tour pictures tomorrow night.
