Harpers Ferry - White Hall Tavern

Several weeks ago, on a nice spring day, I visited Harpers Ferry and took a series of photographs to help guide me as I start modeling this iconic town for my CSX Cumberland Division layout.  First up is White Hall Tavern, which was constructed sometime in the 1850s directly across from the US Armory, giving works an opportunity for a liquid lunch!

Thanks,
Wolf

Nice job Wolf!  Can you say a bit about how you made your signs?

Thank you, Bob

I cut .010 sheet styrene to scale 2-1/2' X 10-1/2' then angled the corners. Painted white.  Applied Microscale decals. I made the lights using .010 brass rod (Bent to shape) and Dimi trains lamp shades.

Best regards,
Wolf

Project for today:  I bought two of the newly released Atlas beer can tank cars lettered for Hercules Powder Company (this was the operating contractor of the Badger Army Ammunition Plant in Sauk City, WI during the time period on my home layout).  I replaced the trucks with MT bettendorf trucks and low profile MT metal wheels and weathered the cars, but I still didn't like the look of them; the railings were way too thick.

I ordered the Gold Metal Models detail kit for these cars and boy did it make a difference.  Now I feel that they can run on the railroad (once I get the second car finished and both of them weathered).  I figured I'll put the first two without the details up on Ebay.

Poles up at Anita, AZ - Although the old lines are gone from Anita, I borrowed from Willaha.

Just about finished with the Showcase Miniatures R. Perez & Sons Car & Carriage Works.  Right now its just sitting on its base and I still need to add some interior and exterior details, but those won't happen until it gets permanently installed on the layout.

Finally finished decaling the J.B. HUNT containers from the last weekend update. They turned out pretty good, considering it has been the better part of a decade since the last time I've decaled anything.

Altohorn25:  Where did you find the MT metal wheels?  Or have you had them in stock for a while?

I tried N Scale Supply, and got the message "Backordered, no ETA" on the 60-pack, and "Not Available or Sold Out" on the 12-pack.

Picked up a couple of packs at Hiawatha Hobbies the last time I was there (about a month ago).  I tend to hoard them as we never know when they will be out of stock......see your point.

You might try Lombard Hobbies in IL as well.  I was there this past Saturday, but I can't remember if they had any in stock.
