The black and white, not because I prefer it, per se, but because it washed out some detail and it's easier for your eye to miss things like the base of a tree or the contrast between the backdrop and layout.

Also, that engineer is awesome. I need to get a guy or three for my steam engines.

Very Nice! Big fan of the B&W, I feel you just need to adjust your shadows and contrast to make them pop.
Hopefully I'm not overstepping, but here's a quick edit to show what I mean...

i totally understand, I  never learned photo editing, yet I can do a full lamp stack, install a domain,  configure the DNS and install an SSL in under 30 minutes on a server through line command...

Forget the editing, work on the lighting.

edit:  I actually had been looking recently to replace my lighting situation and also my halogen shop light.  I picked up one of these :

This is the 3200 watt.  There was a more powerful one but the CRI was worse IIRC.

I totally get it. I have been blowing my hobby budget on a brass loco, a MTL Southern Pacific tank car runner pack, a new Atlas VO-1000 (stills waiting for it, long story), details...I know that I need better light, just can't convince the wife right now....

I found an app called Ektacam, it has different options for "films" and here is Kodachrome 25...

As a photog of the prototype, you'd achieve points for getting the loco in a nearly rods down position but lose more for shooting towards the Sun.  🤷🏼‍♂️

the issue with the layout is the lighting is currently clamp lights clamped on the  top of the backdrop...going to try tomorrow with the garage door open
