Yes, cat will be modeled. I already have it worked out and it won’t take long to do. But it will be the last scenery project as everything underneath must be finished first.

Maybe the ESM might want to sell this electric . He has the R&D , consumer trust , reputation , know how . I , in a heart beat , would buy one for <500 .

Ha! Hand-crafted and counting labor, I don’t think it can be sold for under $500. It contains at least $300 $500 just in parts, including a Kato GG-1 which can be acquired at less expense than buying the G parts from the Kato Parts website.  And there’s no way it could be made as a mass-production model at a profit. 

This was the most difficult NH electric to make, and it was mentally draining to do. I had planned on making two, and a second one would be easier at this point. But I have at least five other electrics to build first, and then maybe I’ll revisit the notion of a second EP-3.

Hey Capt , those don't look like steam fitters or engine re builders  hands . I know a Capt has many hands , and arms , but there on other bodies .

Two long-running projects got 'finished' this week.

First was finally decaling and finishing my Traincat all-etched-brass transfer caboose.   Probably one of the most challenging kits I've ever seen, mostly because of the handrails.  But the stuff like the see-thru etched deck, just wonderful, had to do it just to try the challenge.  This caboose 18374 was common around here and is preserved at the Lake Shore Railway Historical Society museum (North East, PA), redone in proper Conrail blue.





The second one is posted on my other thread, but being able to prove it actually runs well after a long-running rebuild is the icing on the cake here.

A challenge I didn't think I could pull off seems to be coming together.. a classic warbonnet F7 in T scale.  No decals exist for this in this scale so I'm doing it mostly by masking, which is pretty tough at this size (34mm long front to rear).  Someone here very generously volunteered to try print some on an Alps but oh I'm stubborn.  Sequence was silver (mask), yellow (mask), red; Then peel and decal.  In the 2nd pic I've started decal application (lettering and black pinstripes), and probably some touch-up, which will complete the paint job.  Incidentally the shell (and frame and trucks) are 3D/Shapeways models I designed.

My offering this week is... finally!... serious ballasting on the GC&W. After overcoming years of fear and dread over this task, I have a process now that's fast enough to not frustrate that gets the result I'm after:

Had a golden spike ceremony today (complete with massively oversized nail) to commemorate joining the staging yard to the rest of the layout 17 months after starting it. 



I can now run end to end over the entire layout which only takes about 3 minutes at even the slowest scale speed, but it is nice to know that track laying and wiring is all complete.   Looking forward to working on some motive power and freight car projects now, likely starting with these CN and CP RS-3s which will become BCR units.

Mark in Oregon:  If a "respected company", and ESM certainly qualifies, offered a MILW EF-1, I'd buy at least 4.  If the price was under $200, for a plain DC model, I'd buy at least 8.  Undecorated is fine, although painted is preferred.

It doesn't have to have working pantographs.  I have enough spare Overland Models Little Joe pans to do 8 units.

As far as my hands, I usually wear gloves, either to protect from burns or, if I'm rebuilding something, to keep them clean.  Lots of folks wind up with screwed up skin due to long term exposure to oils and solvents, and I'd prefer to avoid that.


As far as calling me captain, well, I'm not a captain, and implying that I am a member of the deck department is a bit insulting.

LOL, as a licensed Marine Chief Engineer myself I sympathize.  Congrats btw. 👍
