Okay, Chris' VW Beetle is going to be the coolest thing this week, hands down, even though it isn't trains!  BEAUTIFUL!

Well, there is indeed life after the brass 0-6-0.  I finally made some forward progress on my layout, which was on total hold for 3 years.  This is "Lee's Fine Artist's Supplies", built from an RSLaser Courter Factory Kit.  I admit that it's a bit odd to have an industrial structure for artist supplies, but it's namesaked after my step daughter who loves art.  And what the heck, all the oil paint, canvas, easels, carving tools, thinners, inks, and stuff has to come from SOMEWHERE.

It features that 4-light scratchbuilt pole fixture I was working on weeks ago, and a whole lot of exterior gooseneck lamps made from 0402 LEDs with .028" stainless hypodermic tubing bent around a jig I cut in some steel rod so I could make the tight bends without collapsing the tubing.

I rearranged things so it straddled the siding with the loading dock under the structure bridge (the stock kit has it along one wall).   Then I added signs, the ramped loading dock, figures, vehicles, dumpsters, crates and other "junk".  The garbage truck is from Shapeways (Stony Smith Designs).  It was hard to find a 1950s looking garbage truck!

They are printed paper models from a company called “Radical Flats” that unfortunately no longer seems to be a going concern.

However, their website has an interesting device which I think will let you make your own photo facades (I don't know, I didn't try it).

Good stuff as usual.  Roger, the CTA garage out of the HO White Tower is very cool.

I've been very busy with work lately, but this week I managed to get a couple of locomotive shells painted and gloss coated in preparation for decals.  One is an SW-1 (not pictured).  The other is should be rather obvious in this picture...


This is a Pecos River Brass Niagara that I've had for a while.  I don't know who made the decal/engine numbering decisions on these models when they were produced, but they made very poor decisions.  The New York Central lettering on the tender was too high, there was no road number on the back of the tender, and the font used for the road number on the cab was so wrong that I'm pretty sure whoever picked it never bothered to look for a picture of an actual Niagara, let alone any NYC steam engine.  So I finally stripped all the lettering off recently, and got to painting it this week.






Started to put new lettering on it today, I'm quite excited to get this thing looking correct.

This week I also hosted my eleventh op session with three fellow North Shore Modellers in attendance.  Engs 701 and 708 have returned home after minor upgrades including a second capacitor, and CN 3218 made its operational debut.  They are seen here arriving at Chetwynd on the Vancouver-Peace freight:




The NAR transfer job is now a regular part of the op sessions; GP9 203 is seen departing the BCR Dawson Creek yard with three cars for the NAR yard:

Tim I’m really digging that spreader. I have two of those kits in the queue. But first I got a bit more work done on the CN business car. It needed marker lights on the rear.

I started by soldering together two lengths of brass tubing and then filing them to shape.





I then carved out a home for them in the end of the roof.





I then shot a primer coat on everything so I can better identify areas that need more attention.
