Alaskan Interior Railway: Tok Branchline

The yard side of the layout is complete!

After finishing the Tok Interchange Yard side of the layout I moved to the industrial area.



All I have left is to fill in the crossing and both of the industry sidings and the roadbed will be complete!

Ok, roadbed complete! I was able to finish all the roadbed pretty quickly, I then decided that I should line the track up to make sure everything is good. It lined up well and ran smoothly so I'm pretty happy with it. Now I just need to put roadbed under the throwbars that I'll use and trim the others off, then I should be able to permanently lay the track. Though I think I will probably build the table/frame next so I can properly wire the track as I secure it.

Thanks for the responses guys, I went and bought the wood for the table frame, so hopefully in the next day or two I'll have that built. We shall see...

Got to work a little in the layout



This is the start to the table frame, I'm hoping to get a lot more progress done on Friday but I'm happy that I was able to get this done tonight!

Alrighty, as I hoped for, the benchwork/table framework was finished tonight! First we(a friend of mine came up for the weekend and so happens to really enjoy building things. I'm quite thankful as he showed me many useful things that were quite useful and improved on my design) worked on finishing the slats, then moved the frame from the garage to the train room, and then attached the legs:



After that we just had to press the foam board into place:



This is as it sits right now. I still have to trim the corners but it's otherwise complete for now. I like the new height it's at(approx 45") and next I should be moving to wiring and track laying! We shall see....

Everyone knows...foam can escape....you have to rein it in..you know all the free radicals and stuff.

Back to reality..looks nice. Could even put a 1/4" round over on the edges..then sand and stain. Maybe even some polyurethane.

Thanks for the comments guys! Yeah I still want to trim the edges so that the corners will look better. Interesting idea with the round for the edges. Hopefully I'll be working on the wiring in the next day or two.

Not much has happened with the layout lately, but, I decided to do some detail work on a few bodies before painting later today.

Now living in Juneau and have this crazy idea, what if The Alaska Railroad was here for a few mile run from the ferry terminal to barge terminal in Juneau? Working out the idea along with the idea of The Taku Terminal Railroad.

Interesting idea Chuck, what do you think they would move through Juneau? That could be an awesome little switching layout.
