Mobile version?
« on: October 25, 2016, 11:42:18 AM »
Well, it's finally happened...

I've outgrown my flip phone, and Rho got me a smarty pants phone.  The excuse was it will help me keep my work calendar straight, keep up with work emails, and otherwise participate in the 21st century.

But we all know the real reason.  I want to be able to post on The Railwire while I'm on the thundermug.

But I can't see the screen when I open it with Chrome, very tiny.  I can zoom in, but what a bother!  Surely there's a mobile app available to help me read @chicken45  's  posts with one hand.  Can someone give this Luddite a primer in Railwire Mobile?

Thanks in advance.

This is all you get, Lee.  You can double tap on someone's post to have it expand to fill the width of the device.  That makes reading easier. I also pinch-zoom the area around a button to make it easier to click on.

You can turn your phone sideways and double the size.  :)

Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

I found it interesting that @wm3798 wanted to specifically read @chicken45's posts with one hand.   :scared: :D

I can't stand mobile sites.

Then stop uisng your damn schmart-phone to view the website.   :D

On a serious note, isn't there a way to fool the website to think you aren't using a mobile device?

Other than that, there is always this alternative:

I know on mine if I open the page with the phone horizontal It will often open the non-mobile version of a website, but not all sites support that.

That pinch zoom gesture makes things larger  on touch screens, not on other, uhm... surfaces.

At that size it is no longer a telephone!   :P You look really silly holding it up to your ear.   It's a phablet - a portable computing device with audio communication capability!  ;)

Also this! In my experience, mobile sites rarely have all the features of the full site. They're almost always stripped down and much harder to navigate.
