Working on some ESM Made in America kit gons.   I tried out a new technique on the top one by using super glue applied in dots with a toothpick to replicate dents between the ribs.

Josh Surkosky

Here's a Clerihew about Ed. K.

Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
But mention his law
and you've pulled your last straw!

Alternate version:
Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

The wrangling over how "impure" the MTL PS-1s are/aren't in that thread made me think about what to do with mine. The ones I'm not selling I'm re-shopping to bring them more into line. The shop mechanics are still a little sloppy in the work but experience will eventually get it right.
Modified MTL on left, new Atlas version on right.
I don't have that many I need to do. However, I assume it will be a long time before Atlas produces as many road names for their PS-1 as MTL/Kadee has already, so reworking a MTL car to keep the paint scheme is an option. They don't make decals for all those roads.

I got a start on my many, many Trainworx parts.

The completion of the first one spurred me to finish this.

Keep in mind that Kadee/MTL has been releasing schemes on that bodystyle for 45 years, and that the overwhelming majority of the schemes are not prototypical for the PS-1.

So it won't take Atlas as long to release the bulk of the prototypical schemes on their PS-1 model.

True, but many of the roadnames aren't available on a prototypical body style, either, and probably never will be, simply because no one seems interested in making the body.  So, since a more accurate model isn't available, that makes the MT version the best available!

Now. if Atlas were to make a 1944 AAR boxcar, I'd be very happy to replace as many of my MT models that should be on that body as I could afford.

For the lead photo, some might be interested in finding a copy of Hilbert Schenck's novel "Steam Bird", a fictional account of the first - and only - flight of a nuclear airplane.  Besides some very strange characters, it also features a model railroad.  He worked on one of the design teams, which makes the descriptions even better.

In real life, no nuclear plane was ever built, much less flown, which is just as well.

Hi
Here is an update on my "Bigs",  the M-636 in the background with former Alco demonstrator C-636 in the front.  This is to become SIXX 77.  I'm happy with the paint job, just not happy with my masking effort with low-tac masking tape.  Also dislodged a couple of small parts removing said masking tape, including the radiator walkway.  A few touch ups required.

The real interesting aspect of this photo, is that it shows the main differences between the MLW and Alco versions of the same design.  Apart from the Cartier changes to the C-636 such as filter work and a longer radiator, which is now the same as that on the M-636.

Cheers

The trucks look great!
I like your use of different gloss & flat finishes. Tires that look like rubber. Well done.

Finished up a custom build of my resin Whitcomb kit of the 1944 ex-US ARMY Whitcomb that worked for many years at American Aggregates and was later donated to the Hocking Valley Scenic Railroad.   This is that Aggregates paint scheme, that I'm told, was done with spray cans of Rustoleum.    Customers father ran the locomotive.

Prototype:  http://www.davedupler.com/hvsry/HV711_0201b.jpg

The odd silver boxes on the end appear to be DIY replacement sandboxes, it was obviously repowered and the radiators moved to the ends, which would have taken out the stock sandboxes.

Model build:

This is equipped with my favorite drive of a Kato 12V 11-105 motor mated up with a Gizmoszone 5.14:1 gearhead, quiet, smooth, and slow.

I 'think' the Whitcomb is still out at the HVSR somewhere, repainted blue.   If anybody has seen it in the last couple years, let me know.

That truck is way too nice to leave it parked in that spot.  :D

They come like that from the factory! Glossy cabs and rubber-like tires.  :)
