Stripping shells wrapped in paper towels
« on: August 09, 2016, 02:40:10 PM »

I had to strip a shell today for a project, and realized that I didn't want to waste so much alcohol keeping it submerged (I'm running a bit low), so I tried something new.

I wrapped the shell in a paper towel and wet the paper towel.

It worked great!

Is there some reason not to do this that I'm missing?

First: working from home sounds great!

Second: I wonder if putting the paper towel-wrapped loco in a plastic bag would've slowed down the evaporation.

First: It is.

Second: I sealed it in an Atlas freight car box and things were still nice and damp when got it a few hours later. I like the bag idea though. I'll try that if I have to do it again.

Yeah, but I didn't want to have to run out.

Cause, ya know, it's not like I don't have two drug stores literally right around the corner.

Hmm... I knew Ed had a
good reason...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.
"It works! It works!"

It's also because it's easy enough to run down into the basement to get a car stripping during the day between calls. Running an errand though, well, that takes a few more minutes.

I usually just keep a large mason jar that is filled with Chameleon paint stripper. When I need to clean something up, dunk it in the jar come back a couple days later. When it gets dirty I run it through a coffee filter.

You should have ordered thru Prime.  Oh, I forgot, someone had changed the password and didn't tell you if I remember correctly....

Lol. Yep.

Although I annoyed her enough that she changed it back.

I still have Chameleon! Bought it in 2009 at Ester's Hobby in Pittsburgh. Still use it, still works great!

For those nopt familiar with telework, it also requires shaving, brushing your teeth, and putting clothes on.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

It does?  Huh, I guess I should put on more than my underwear, then.
