What's more fun than a Pennsy T1?  Go ahead, ask me.  What's more fun than a Pennsy T1?

TWO PENNSY T1's, that's what!

I had a Key Imports brass one in for a tune-up for someone, and the thought occurred to me to
run it doubleheaded with my own home-made one.   I don't even know if the PRR ever did this.
And this is all analog DC, with two completely different mechanism designs (1 motor vs 2,
a coreless motor in the Key vs my two conventional Sagamis in a cut/spliced Con-Cor chassis, etc).

But surprisingly, they run together quite nicely.   At first, I didn't quite have the feel to get the train
started, but I got the hang of it.     I won't kid ya... This was a load of fun.
It was like watching an old friend come out of hiding.

Ha!  You guys make me laugh.  No, I won't be doing any PRR modeling any time soon.

But Doug, I really appreciate that photo!  So what do you know, they DID doublehead T1's.

The Key engine has no traction tires, so it is slipperier than mine.  In fact, there's one scene where I back the train all the way
up across the trestle and then start it out again at the top of the hill, and you can see the lead Key engine slipping before the
train gets a grip and starts pushing.   Mine was behind the hill, so I couldn't see, but I would guess that the Key started turning
at a little lower voltage than mine, and once mine started to push from behind, that's when the slipping stopped.

That Key engine is superbly made.  Faulhaber coreless motor, NWSL style universal joints, fully sprung drivers that really give and spring
like they should.  Sturdy brake shoes that don't easily bend into the drivers (like so many brass engines).  Wow.  Whoever designed that thing knew what they were doing.  It is also a rigid-frame.  I thought it had a pivot in the middle between the engine trucks,
but I must be thinking of the NJ Custom Brass version.

Well, at least there is the T1 Trust.
So hopefully there will someday be at least one T1 flying along the rails.

It's amazing that none were preserved...  For that matter only 1 M1 was preserved....  Got to see it last week - what an inspiration to see these in person...

Cody:  The few standard gauge steam locos I want, none of which are made, already have Belpaire fireboxes.  The GN was apparently the only other major North American road to use them.

Good luck putting one on a narrow gauge 2-8-2, and the D&RGW's K36/37 are the other steamers I need.  If anyone wants to take the challenge, my narrow gauge is a freelance line, so I'd accept them if someone wants to do it, and they run well.

I can't wrap my head around it either. You'd think that the PRR would have wanted to keep at least one at Northumberland with the rest of that collection.
Technically parts of two T1s survive since the FD2 uses two sets of T1 tender trucks.

You can move a PRR fan but you can't remove the PRR fan within .

It's my railroad and if I want to run PRR in the Pacific Northwest I will .

Maybe it's a retro railfan excursion not unlike the 2 AFT's . What would that excursion be named ?
