Anyone care to take a guess as to what this is?

Still not much worthy to share modeling wise, you guys probably don't want to see some models simply painted black, but I did do some railfanning on the NS Chicago Line in Goshen, IN.

Great shot!

Is that all the changes needed to convert a S-4 into a Lima switcher , the long hood ? What do you have planned for the rounded corners of the windows , or did some come squared cornered ? I love it and want one .............. for decades . Terrific

More final assembly of the bridge and the first ballast is in place.

An inspection train heads over for the first time.  After a near miss, no more inspections until everything is mounted.

I got Showcase' new Ballast Regulator assembled.  I had more than a few issues, but nothing insurmountable.  I do caution anyone building it to constantly make sure their components are straight and centered.  The ballast wings are terribly under-detailed in my opinion with the glaring omission of the necessary hydraulic cylinders to make them operate as well as the omission of the clutter of hydraulic hoses on them (as well as the rest of the machine). So I may do something to rectify that before proceeding with paint.  The Photo-etch, I initially thought some of the best PE i've worked with -- stiff where it needed to be, perfectly dimensioned, and with the thinnest attachment gates ever -- then I came to the grills which were worthless -- under-etched in most areas, over-etched in others.  I immediately saw why Showcase included two versions of the hood -- one with the 'hood' cast as a single solid piece so that you didn't have to use their PE grills.  I may have a picture tonight, but should definitely have something next weekend.

I had an hour or so today, so I added a few details to my CNR 1971 Promo Reefer (the one with the cow on it):

I still have to add all of the ladders, louvers, some other details, and modify the underframe.
After ten or so years, it is nice to see it moving ahead anyways...

No, the cab needs replacing, too.  I messed up on that, though, and wound up with the etching being too wide.  I need to get that fixed and re-etched.

If you want one, I might could be convinced to hook you up  :)

No work for me this week. The golf course is almost ready to open and we are starting to get busy.

More great work this week boys. Keep up the good work.

Very nice work this week. DKS, I a really dig your little layouts. So much character, design and fine modeling.

I had meant to do some modeling today after mass and Easter brunch, but I bought a new basketball hoop yesterday for my daughter and we spent the afternoon putting it together and shooting hoops.  A good use of time. The railroad will be there tomorrow, but there are only so many sunny days to spend with the kids.

Best wishes, Dave

I couldn't agree more.  My teenagers go back to their moms house today  :( so I have spent the last week studiously avoiding all thing railroad except catching up here at night.

This weekend, I managed something that's been on the to-do list for a very long time: I've made a start on my first layout.

Crappy smartphone pic doesn't hide nearly enough of the crappy construction, track alignment, etc but the whole idea of this 2x4 beastie is to get some practice before attempting an around-the-walls monster.

Looking forward to making ore progress next weekend!
