Here is explained How to Recover a Project File After Crash or Power Failure and to restore your SCARM track plan to the last autosave state. I hope you do not have to use that feature, but... just in case  :|

And here are the SCARM railway modelling blog posts for June.

The new SCARM v. 0.9.34 is ready and published, coming with new and updated track libraries and also with the brand new Model Trains Simulator.
Read more details here:

SCARM Railway Layout Planning Software 0.9.34 Released

The Starter Edition of the simulator is intended for simple 2D and 3D simulations of various operations on the track plans, designed in SCARM. It will show you how the model rolling stock can be operated on a real layout, before buying even a single track.

In that way, you will be able to test the concept of your plan and to discover potential design flaws before start the construction of a real layout. And like SCARM, this edition of the simulator is completely free :)

Please note: if you want to test the simulator, you must install the latest version of SCARM first and then to use "Extensions" > "Browse for Extensions" menu command in the program in order to download and install the required files.

The simulator opens a whole new world in SCARM universe and if some of forum members are interested in that field, I may start a new topic to discuss the various operating possibilities, the realism options, performing of the simulation sessions, etc.

Hope you will like the new version :)

Thank you, Ian :)

Here is the only one SCARM railway modelling blog post for August.

And something important - if someone is faced with the "Out of memory" error message in SCARM when editing very large and/or complex layout, here is how to cope with that: Cause and Solution for Out of Memory Error Message.

I haven't gotten the message, but my track plan isn't very complex.. except for its size..

Good to know what to so if I get the message..

It is difficult to navigate and 3d render the layout.  (Very slow).. but it works, and I understand 3d rendering isn't your main goal..

Here are the SCARM model train blog posts for September.

Look also in the recently published gallery in the blog from one of the largest modular layout meetings in Europe:

35 Years Anniversary FREMO Meeting in Riesa, Germany

Overall meeting hall view:

The track plan, spreaded on more than 6000 m2:

That is designed probably in AutoCAD or other similar general purpose CAD software, not in SCARM. However, I am considering adding of features for creating of modular layouts also in SCARM for some of the next versions of the program :)

For those, who want to use the Model Train Simulator with narrow gauge track layouts: the current library with virtual rolling stock in the bundle is representing standard gauge prototypes and cannot be directly scaled to the narrow gauge model tracks. If you try that, you will get the "Gauge mismatch" stop message and nothing will happen.

However, with a little trick, the tracks in the SCARM layout can be re-scaled without changing of the dimensions and geometry, so the virtual trains to be able to be placed and moved on a narrow gauge route. See how below:

Playing with Narrow Gauge Track Layouts in Model Trains Simulator

Re-scaling of the track route in the layout as shown in the blog post helps to test the track plan with the current Demo Start Set rolling stock library in MTS.

Here I want to show you one interesting idea: single track line for using with rolling stock in two scales - standard gauge N (1/160) and narrow gauge HOn30 (1/87).

Small Folding Layout For Use in Both HOn30 and N scales

The track plan is designed as single line in “double 8” figure with one small station in front and train stop at the back. The layout is planned to allow exchanging of the buildings, signals and some other parts depending on the current rolling stock scale – N (1/160) or narrow gauge HOn30 (1/87). The guy who builds this layout has prepared different stations and surrounding buildings, different types of signals and different locos and coaches. Only the tracks and the grass will be the same in both scales. Check the link to see more pictures in the two different setups :)

Here is the only SCARM modeling blog post for December. It is about two nice virtual structures in N scale that you can download and use in your SCARM track plans.

And the most recent post from the last week in the blog is showing one nice short video about the FREMO idea and the organization of modular layout meetings:

Hope you will like it :)
