Got the airbrush out and started painting the SD70Ms. Had a few dramas along the way and I'm not happy with the results, so I'll probably strip them and start again.  :'(

I feel your pain.  I had the same thing happen with a pair of ARMN reefers I was detailing.  The final white coat came out looking like s&!t, so now they're sitting in a drawer waiting for my enthusiasm to return.   >  But it will some day -- yours too.

Ok, here's the finished NW2 project:

I fixed the stack color as well as the headlight enclosures (they should have been black as well).

Got a light coat of weathering on it as well.

I swapped out the kato couplers for MT 1015's.  The kato ones weren't coupling as well as I would like.

I did this caboose and another one similar to it a few weeks ago.  It is a JNJ kit and once you clean up the casting, it turns out to be a good model.

As soon as I get the decoder in the mail, I can play with it on the layout.

Its great to have another Milwaukee Road fan here! Nice job on the NW2 and caboose. Feel free to post future images in a larger size so that we can better appreciate your work! I'm hoping to make it to Trainfest this year (if I can find a reasonably priced plane ticket) to see these in person.

I tried downloading bigger pics, the program booted me out (file size was too big).  I'll have to play around with it so I can get bigger pictures next time.

Great work all around! Really enjoyed seeing Puddington, Ian and GaryHinshaw's work.

I model very modern compared to that Alco, but I couldn't help stopping and staring for a long time!

Awesome work, everyone.

I'm pissed.  I just built a Kim's Classic American Home kit from Atlas...  I went out of my way to do the kit versus pre-built because I wanted it to be plain white with asphalt shingle roof as is so common in Pennsylvania.

I did most of the work on Monday, but (almost) finished up today.  Well, Wednesday was trash day, and apparently in my zeal I consigned the chimney to the landfill.  To add insult to injury, I have almost every kind of window, door, roof vent, and other detail EXCEPT a chimney.

Looks like I'm scratchbuildin'...  GRRRRRR!

Pud, that Alco is as only an Alco should be...  Great work on the detail and weathering.  Glad to see you're making good use of your free time!

For me, those of you who regard my modeling as a bunch of junk, well, here's your proof...


I picked up some squished auto loads Saturday, and had this worked up before I went to bed.  Today, I had the pleasure of visiting with Bernie Kempinski, aka AlkemScaleModels...  He had offered up one of his outstanding module sets for the asking, and I went to pick them up on behalf of Brian (RockGP40)


There we are in the "before and after" shot.  His civil war era O scale rig is nothing short of amazing.  



The backdrop is gorgeous, and even though only about 30% of the track plan is installed, you can really see how it's going to come together and be an outstanding example of our craft.



It's just about completely hand crafted.  I also got to ogle some of the 'leftovers' from his various N scale efforts, including his Port structures (featured in the MR article about Northern Virginia One Trak) and an incredibly detailed steel mill based on the Walther's kit, but finished to a degree that Uncle Bill could only dream of.



There's Andy and myself, with the Moose Valley modules tucked safely into the Sticky V for the trip across the bay to Centreville, and Brian's waiting basement...

I also started sorting out the cars on the layout and trimming down the number of cars "in play" in preparation of an ops session, probably in mid to late October.  Stay tuned.

It was a good week all the way around.

I know that Ed's not a huge fan of Fujis, but I'm glad your enjoying the test drive.  I also believe that it's being used more to its full potential with you than I could ever do.  I admit that the four or five hours that I spent with you trying to perfect a cover shot for your article taught me more about what that camera can do than what I learned in the previous year-and-a-half that I've owned it.

Oh, and don't worry about the batteries.  I got a good deal on a 40- or 50-pack awhile ago, and I'm barely halfway through the package.
