I was asked sometime ago to post some photos of my layout, the FCN.    Well, I just recently finished the move of my photos from the now-defundt Yahoo, Geocities site to another site.  This one is available to Netzero subscribers.

The address is:

http://www.fcnrwy.mysite.com/

some of these images are a few years old and some were just taken a few months back....

Those are really nice Jerry.  How'd you do the custom logos?

Phillip H-  The decals are a combination of sets.  The white lettering is from a custom-maker, Don Manlick.  He is just up the road in Manitowoc, WISC.  The blue striping are also, from him.  (he offers them in about 12 different colors.)  I used just straight strips for the logo and cutup one decal sheet of stripes, diagonally for the nose work.
Numbers on the cab and the frame stripe are parts from Microscale decal sets(DW&P, CN).  The warning and maintenance plaquers are the GE Dash9/AC44 set.

sd75i - The ES7 is my version of Dash 7 to Gevo-engined conversion.  The idea actually comes from two pieces of information from GE.  I also follow prototype railroading. (I have been a Railfan for as long as I have been a modeler)

A couple of years ago, GE was promoting the upgrading of older units. The conversion was referred to as "modernizing" locomotives.  Which they did do to some locos of a railroad in South Russia.
Not unlike the old "Super7 Series" rebuilds.  But, more of a "do it yourself" project.  The Super7s were completed locos coming from GE.
In the "moderization:  A good portion of the loco is rebuilt/reused.  With only the Primemover and related parts replaced new.  The assembly is mated to the loco and new sheet metal is fabricated to complete the conversion.

The second piece is from a post to Yahoo Group, Loconotes.  A thread posted GE's creation of a "6-cylinder" GEVO Primemover a GEVO engine cut in half down the middle.  The engine was stated to be for the Regional and Switcher loco power markets coming in at 2300 HP.  An accompanying graphic showed the engine in a “B-trucked” loco.
The B23-7 was a 2300hp unit (2250hp).  It was a no-brainer after that.

The modeling part is shown in the photo below.

So, take One BXX-7 body assembly.  Toss out the long hood.  Add an Dash8-32BHW long hood and an some styrene pieces and you have a FCN “B23ES7”

Again, you could look at it as being a modern day version of GE's Super 7 rebuilds.  Which got me into doing kitbashes and scratch building in the first place, some twenty years ago

That's really cool, I like it!

You don't think they'd stick a modern cab on it though, like they did with the Super 7s?

Ed - This is a "FCN" conversion.  Were Frugal!!  ;D

Modeling-wise,  I did want to keep a majority of the original engine in these conversions.  Just remove the long hood and graft a newer long hood on.  But, the issue was with the paint matching.  The color I was using had been changed over ten years to a point that the different was, night and day.   So, it was easier to redo the whole thing from scratch.   This also allowed me to do a house-cleaning of all of my Dash 7 parts.

Since, I like to keep the FCN Rwy modeling in the current trends, I had to "modernized" my diesel pool.   I will be retiring my Dash 7 locos and acquiring more Dash 8s as leasers units.... More, painting!! ;D ;D ;D  and a different modeling direction.

Cool. I was just curious about your thought process on it. I always find that stuff interesting.

This past weekend, I was able to finish the engine bay cover on my ES7 engine testbed.

I have planned on modeling a GEVO I-6 , but I still need some photos on the actual engine itself.  I have one, but it is a closeup.   Would like a nice 3/4 shot or too to complete the job.  but have not found one yet.
