Truck Mounting Pin Standards

While changing some trucks on various cars, I kept wondering why there were so many different hole sizes in the trucks and in the frames. Wouldn't it be great if this was standerized in the industry?

That would be nice if one pin fits all....

Better would be one screw size fits all.

I'm with Brakie on this one . . . my experience is that drilling and tapping the Delrin bolster for a screw is not tough, but you need thin profile pan head screws to make it work.  You also have to be careful about the number of times you insert and remove said screw - the plastic is fairly soft and will actually strip if you aren't careful.

Using screws for all would be good if the screw diameter would allow a close fit to the hole in the truck. I have used 2-56 SS panhead screws and they work well except in MT trucks which have a larger hole in the truck and will let the truck slop around too much. They work fine on Atlas trucks.

I prefer the pins, actually.  If I've got one that's a little loose, I squeeze the pin with some needle nose plyers to deform it out of round, and it will snug right in.

I was reading a post on another forum and one of the replys stated that he used shrink tubing as a bushing when monting trucks. I tried this with Atlas trucks, 2-56 X 1/4" SS panhead screws, snug fitting shrink tubing on the screw, and it worked perfectly. This has solved some truck mounting problems that I was having. This screw and shrink fit tubing made a perfect fit in the Atlas truck pin hole.
