Kato SD40-2, coupler clips... ?

So, at some point one of the clips that holds the couplers in decided to visit the carpet black-hole..

Anyone got a spare they can.. um... spare?



I just need ONE clip..  I'm not sure I want to pay ten bucks(via kato ) to get one..

You can always use the screws that MTL provides with the couplers, if you're hard up.

If they're the same as the LifeLike clips, I've got a ton of them to spare.

I don't have an SD40-2 so I can't check.

They're not the same as LL.. and the MT screws are too big(diameter).

I wanted to put a 905 in there.. but I'm fresh out.    So I guess I could just put an N Scale MT in there..

One reason might be that even with the MT "close couple" conversion there is a ridiculous amount of space between units on the SD40-2.

This is the reason I kept (or acquired) the Kato couplers for my tiny fleet of those new-fangled SD40-2s. I havent really had an operating layout in this time frame so performance is still unknown to me.

I had also intended to leave the Kato couplers on my 6366, but I found that they just didn't have enough "give" or "play" to work when coupled up to cars, so mine got the ugly knuckle treatment.

Maybe I should go back and explore the 905 option though.

well, I put the 'ol MT's on last night.  I had to enlarge the coupler opening to make 'em fit..  I see now, I should have put on MT 2004 Body Mount Couplers.. not the 1015's I had lying around.  Oh well... I got them in there.

hey Shipsure! Can you guys do something about the coupling distance on your conversion for the Kato SD40-2?

This is the only hood unit where I have this issue.

The MT rep told me plain, it's those darn 9 3/4" radius pieces they MUST engineer for. A look at some of the new guys on the block's passenger cars (Rapido, Des Plains, duh, the new Harriman express bagagge cars) show the couplers bearly beyond the end of the underframes, and I wonder if they'll take a 15" radius (fine with me).
My F-45's and FP-45's that will always run together may get the (gasp!) Unimate short-shank cure. Close coupled, won't come uncoupled unless I'm pulling my truck. FT's, F-3's, and FA's are all draw-barred as close as possible.
