Whoops WUD 571 is all done except for the header picture . Abscess , follow up drugs , and deciding on a narrow gauge location , name , and getting decals ordered made me , allowed me to screw up . I will get it done as soon as possible . minutes or an hour or so .

Did some scenery enhancement on the Free-MoN modules that I take to shows with KSONS. I added the Mail Pouch barn, tar paper shack, and the GHQ tractor, along with some scrub-brush and a few trees.

Nice scene!  May I ask which figure you used for the tractor driver?  Looking forward to doing my farm scene atop the helix one day.

The test block got a little out of  hand. Started as just track laying practice, then I decided I wanted to use up the Catenary test prints I had laying around. Ended with a single span of Wire way too tedious to make on a layout. But it looks cool to display the Comets I can't run anywhere. Next step is a fancy little facscia with a lighting toggle and battery holder. Maybe throw in a new look on the road with some more signs, really drive home that this a Rapido N display.

Looks like Preiser 79125, seated industrial workers and dockers.

That's is some pretty impressive work, but I can see how it would be too tedious at the quantity for a layout.  To me this looks like a good candidate for photoetching, but that might get a bit pricey.

Finished the approaches to the track elevator so the track surface for the upper and lower levels is in for most of the layout.  Time to move to the other end and put the upper level in there.

An update of the layout to this point....

@DKS
Every time I think you can't do something even more clever, you prove me wrong!

So.. the flares made me think of a challenge - as a kid I remember seeing smudge pots used a markers on road construction sites (mid-1960s).  I've never seen static models of these, much less animated...

I got bridge 7B painted and in place.  I now need to build up the scenery around it.  Overall I'm happy with how this scene is coming together and should hopefully be running trains round-and-around before very long.

  After not doing any modeling in a few months, today I started working on installing some sound in 4 Kato F B units. I run ABBA's and putting sound in just the B's. It took several attempts to get the speaker box to fit just right. Made it as large as I could to fit a 10X15 speaker.

The Catenary itself isn't so bad provided I get a standardized spacing and make a jig, but definitely the case with the EZ line since that took me 3hrs for this 17cm span.
The layout in concept is going to be tough and I may need to search around for a setup that both makes sense and is simpler. The ones I have here would be the most appropriate but the Mast can only practically be 3D printed and I would prefer it be brass. Then also experiment if its a big visual difference to omit the smaller power cables and guy wires while still doing the Catenary.

Thanks! @DKS beat me to it - it's from the Preiser 79125 Seated Industrial Workers set. I had to heat the legs with a soldering iron (careful not to actually touch the figure) to spread his stance, so he'd fit on the seat.

What did you use for the field crop?
@sirenwerks it's just Woodland Scenics ground foam (coarse medium green, I think?). I laid-out the rows with a ruler and pencil, carefully applied a small bead of Elmers glue to each row (maybe 6-8 rows at a time, so the glue didn't skim-over), and applied the ground foam. I was going for soy beans, and most people ask if that's what they are. So, I'd call that a scenicing win.

Nailed it. This is a really versatile set, IMO. I mostly use them for steam locomotive crews, but now for "Farmer Brown" as well.

Yes, I see what you mean: the mast and arm have slots in them, so solid metal rods would not work.  Shapeways can print 3D designs  in metal (like brass or stainless steel), but I'm not sure if the resolution would be high enough for them to look good.  Plus it is also rather pricey.

Your "crop" also resembles leaf lettuce.  Years ago I grew leaf lettuce for a variety of seed companies, and just before the seed stalks shot up, my 1:1 fields looked a lot like your field.   :o

Cased rolling stock got moved into their new home this evening.  Depending on jewel case size, 75-95 cars fit in a drawer, 1 layer.  The 5 upper drawers can be double stacked if needed.  Bottom 3 drawers can be triple stacked.  After moving everything in a case, I still have 1 completely empty drawer.  I still have a large number of cars without cases I have in Iron Horse storage boxes.  And my locomotives aren't moved yet :D

It's been a long time since I posted anything modeling related in the weekly update, but think it's probably time.   ;)

I finally retired from the military at the beginning of the year after 28 years and my wife and I moved into our new house where we plan to stay for a long time.  I started with an empty basement on March 30th and have slowly worked my way to where I am today on the layout.  I've had a lot of time off while I'm between jobs and waiting for training to start (I'm now a corporate pilot, but that's another story...).

It is a single level, 26'x37' around the walls layout and features a double mainline that is built for basically train watching with some industry's to switch along the route.  It's all freelance as I've lived in way to may locations to pick one favorite to focus on.  As some may remember, I was doing a lot of custom painting, detailing, and weathering up until about 2015 when I took command and my free time all but vanished.  I've been just accumulating rolling stock and engines since then and was focused on weathering everything when I did have some free time.  I ended up going up a scale to HO because my eyesight is not doing me any favors and I hate wearing bifocals.

Anyway, here's some photos of what I was working on this weekend.  I'm almost ready to start laying the ballast in this area, just need to finish some minor water details before I "plant" the bridge semi-permanently.  That's why the rail joiners look rather beat up.  :)

Cheers,
Brian

I started working on a couple of the new N Scale Kits depressed center flats. These kits are a hot mess compared to any other kit NSK makes. I had to rebuild every bolster to get the truck spacing right and I had to narrow the end of the car to match the prototype. Lots more left to do before paint.

You want to look for a drafting, blueprint, or map cabinet.  This one is metal, in 2 sections.  It at one point housed drawings/sketches of The Tootsie Pop Owl, the Scrubbing Bubbles among other advertising mascots, per information from @wm3798

The shot down the aisle is how I envision my new layout wrap around. Great work.

I started working on a couple of the new N Scale Kits depressed center flats. These kits are a hot mess compared to any other kit NSK makes. I had to rebuild every bolster to get the truck spacing right and I had to narrow the end of the car to match the prototype. Lots more left to do before paint.

:(

Thanks Chuck,

If I pivot 90 degrees to my right, this is the shot down the other direction.  It's roughly a 31' run give or take a few inches.  :D

[attachimg=1]

And then this is the shot right behind me in the corner.

[attachimg=2]

In hindsight, I should have done one more panel on the wall mural, which would have eliminated that gray gap...  :facepalm:

Cheers,
Brian

Where does one get a cabinet like this or is it home made?

Looks like a 36" or 42" drawing flat file cabinet.  They are quite heavy with full extension drawers, here is my 42" version that I found in someone's garbage and repainted. Used they can run around 200-300 bucks.

This is actually a very good price but only a 36" wide version.

There are hardwood versions out there too for a more traditional look.

I never counted but i think there are two or three hundred pieces of rolling stock in there. Many are stackable and I always wanted a second and third to stack with the bottom cabinet on wheels. I added the side handles to carry the unit when empty.
