Post by: bbussey on February 27, 2016, 01:49:54 PM
The second release of the ESM 1958 GSC Well Car is in stock.  All reservations have been shipped to various distributors and dealers.  Watch for the cars to start surfacing next week.

Nice!  I should be getting my shipping notice from BLW soon!  I missed them the first time around.

I'll be getting the PRR car, because the model looks cool.  Wasn't there a load done for this car, shapeways?

What's the service date on the CR one? Trying to decide between it and the PC one.

All service dates for all ESM rolling stock are on the appropriate website item pages.

I think Bryan said there were production issues with Shapeways.

That's too bad, looks like I'll have this car and my F25's running around with no loads.  :(

...I don't know if I would say that ...I've been nagging @Lemosteam to make some of the F25 loads in the flat car book.

Mine also arrived today from BLW. Very well made car (in a rather large box).  I know, it is a standard ESM box.  :)

Funny how small those 28" wheels look in the truck frames.  I do like the very fine stirrups ,and the brake wheel also looks close to scale. I noticed that one of the couplers is not centering. I'll have to take a better look at it later at my workbench.

Some advice to save on disassembly/reassembly frustration:
If you do disassemble the couplers, this is the easiest method of reassembly:
That is the best procedure to keep the parts from exploding/projecting across the room while disassembling the model.

Thanks for the hints Bryan - those were very helpful. Interesting piece of engineering! Of course the affected coupler was on the brake-wheel end to make it more challenging. Yes, I ended us bending the brake-wheel staff, but it didn't break.

Problem is fixed.  But no matter what I did, the inside vertical space of the coupler pocket was too high so the coupler shanks were too floppy.  I ended up gluing a piece of 0.005" styrene to the top of the pocket insert. That took care of the problem. Now the coupler behaves as it is supposed to, with minimal vertical play.

Nice model.  I'm surprised thought that MT hasn't yet re-done these couplers to RDA couplers.

My car came today as well.

I laughed. Need to order my PRR foob...speaking of which...what is "wrong" for it being a PRR car? It looks pretty close to my eye.

Also curious as to why it is a foob?

Because it is not an accurate representation of the prototype.  It's similar, but definitely a foob.
