Exactly my thoughts . The car is not included , but to advertise it with that modern car is sloppy , lazy . Much older cars are a snap to get .

I like the approach, the execution is "eh".

I think that picking a more western road would've made more sense for the cattle chute. I think there's just more appeal there because of the closer ties between the cattle industry and the western railroads.

I think the auto box is a brilliant idea too, but it's got to be a period correct car. That looks like a 78 something in a 30s-50s car.

Cattle cars once were used extensively ... in the east.

At one point the following roads had (qty of stock cars):

• PRR 2,315
• NYC 1,675
• B&O 1,192

By comparison NP had 1,715, GN had 2,045, and ATSF 7,461!

That's a 2 deck stock car design , I added a second deck to the ones I have . Still like the chute though . No idea what a 2 deck chute would look like .

Many, many stock trains ran in the East.  If you model that era, a place to stop and water the livestock is a must.  Fed laws said you had to do this.  These trains went to major cities for butchering of the cattle, sheep, hogs, etc.  This was before refrigeration made inrodes into shipping livestocki.  The King Rance also ran trains from Texas to PA during certain times of the year.  They had land for the cattle to fatten up in PA before being shipped to wholesalers.

Years ago, RMC published a photo of a cattle car being hauled behind a brand new EL SD-45. A dealer in upstate NY was sending cattle to a slaughterhouse in NJ. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a wooden ramp at one end or both. PRR was moving cattle on a large scale into the 60's. Not sure what the others were doing.

Indeed. And yet they say it does include a laser-cut ramp, but they don't show it in the pic. Hmmm... <wanders off scratching head>

I could really care less what auto they put in the boxcar for the ad. Kinda silly to nitpick on that of all things.

I'm not going for either car. Kinda like the idea though. We all put a high cvalue on collecting rolling stock and loco's but one of the manufacturer's complaints is exactly that. We spend more money on the stuff that runs on the rails and not enough structures and details. This at least makes an attempt at showing the reason for the cars existance and if it will help put more collectors in the modellers or operators category, then I'm all for it. ESPECIALLY if it helps sell structures so we can get more structures manufactured.

The old Goetze's Meats plant on Sinclair Lane near Belair Road had what appears to be a livestock chute next to the B&O tracks.  I recall reading that the B&O was among the last, if not the last eastern road to roster a fleet of stock cars, and I believe that was into the early 70's.

There was more to the building there to the left, and there were several overhead walkways that crossed Sinclair Lane to reach the large building on the south side of the street.  The old neon sign board is still on the roof.

So is an auto ramp for getting autos from the ground into the car (like the cattle ramp) or some sort of structure inside the car for holding them during transport?  "Enquiring minds want to know."
