It's a MT 10-1-2...no; it's a 8-1-2.....
« on: August 20, 2010, 02:23:47 PM »
Wanted to post my progress on this today because it appears that my perpetual battle with infected shingles on my right leg may have taken a turn for the worse and if so I will be unable to sit at the computer within a few days because I'll be stuck laying down with the leg up...(let's hope I'm wrong...)

The CPR had no Pullman 10-1-2's; although some no doubt visited throughout the years. They did; however; receive through the Pullman sell off; five 8-1-2's that were used on the SOO-CPR Mountaineer

These cars were given the CPR livery and finished their days in that service.

The new MT 10-1-2 is a few windows off the 8-1-2; these are easily covered/built so I decided to take a crack at one of the five cars.  I chose the "Mountaineer" due exclusively to the ability to chop up exisiting CPR car name decals and make that name (good enough reason for me)

I'm not finished yet but here's the progress to date.

The third window on the left was made, and the first set of double windows from the left has one half filled in. The same for the other side.

It needs diaphrams, windows and shades; passengers and weathering but it's coming along.

(Now; you know that MT will announce an 8-1-2 within days...right...? :D)

Looks good! I hope the shingles isn't as bad as you're expecting.

Cheers,

Kev

You're fortunate in needing an 8-1-2.  I want to do an 8-1-3 which is going to take considerably more work.  The one fortunate aspect is that major sections of the 10-1-2 and 12-1 can be combined to make 85% of the sides.  The remaining 15% will have to be fabricated from sections of sides, or etched.

Well; the leg is killin me but I finished her.... >:(

She's one small bathroon window shy on the compartment side but I'll live with that.

Here's the "Mountaineer" in revenue service.
