On each item I bring up, the description has "Sorry but this item is currently unavailable" written OVER the word "Purchases".

"You can not place anything in the cart until I enter stock quantities. Once quantities are loaded, the cart will be live and payments (CC's and PayPal) can be processed."
Bryan, with Qty in stock = 0, the item is "currently unavailable"

Also, I don't know if it's this way with the shopping cart, but I filled a wish list and there was no obvious "return to shopping" option, which meant more navigation to get back. For the average clunkhead too busy to go back, that could mean less sales.

Click Home on the top banner

Bob,

I can appreciate both your answers and, if I were a complete idiot I'd just say OK and move on. Regarding the quantity in stock response, duh. Perhaps I should present what I mean visually to make it easier:

Do you see now how the two blocks of text physically overlap?

As for the continue shopping, I know very well I can move back using the home button. It's a matter of convenience, and convenience drives a shopper to stay on the site longer, which, with roadblocks of ease removed, drives them to purchase more. But hey, what do I know about psychology, I'm only an a$$hat shopper, right?

Bob,

I was checking out your wish list section.  I like the fact you can add multiple list.  When adding a new list there's a check box with the phrase "I want to be able to this list"  I think you meant "I want to be able to share this list"

Other suggestions

  • Check box when creating account to be added to the Newsletter
  • Contact link for suggestions/support
  • Link to the manuals page on your other site

Other than what David spotted - looks great! 8)   I can't wait till it goes live and yes Mr Wallet will feel the pain! :P

The overlapping text looks like a browser issue. Doesn't look like that for me. I could be wrong, but I doubt Bob has that level of control over page rendering. Which is why he might not be able to add a "continue shopping" button--I have a feeling the storefront is a canned application (not that there's anything wrong with this--it just limits the amount of customization possible).

If you have created an account (not checking out as guest), you are given the option to be included in the newsletter when checking out. This checkbox is normally Un Checked as I do not believe in SPAM or hidden sign-ups.

Fixed the "share" goof

David, I had turned off the Brands elsewhere because I was going to use that field for Scales. Scales are now integrated and seachable.

Bryan, it does appear to be an issue with your browser

I do appreciate all the points. I am trying to make things easier for all.

And we appreciate your efforts! Thanks for adding the scale filter--that's a big help.

It's all good.

Several items are on the site but not in the store yet (Transfer Cabeese, Platform Signals, Train Sheds, etc). Does not mean they are gone or not coming. As it is, I had to enter 157 items into the store. More items will follow shortly.

Except one . . . Athearn informed me two weeks ago that my special order of assembled and painted Mack-R extended tractors and extra tires was canceled by Sanda Kan. Even though I had ordered 300 units, they now want 500 as a min.

Bob, I take it the auto carriers are plentiful then (if there were 300 sets to go with those cabs).

I'm waiting for the transfer cab to get my shopping done.... Conrail bay windows, transfer and auto carriers.

Just curious, any info on 52' gons? I'd love some PRR prototypes.

And Jersey Central.

Frank

Yay! Great job. Sorely needed.

Suggestion: Can you set up Advanced Search to filter by scale? That would be very useful.

Also, there are a bunch of really odd brand names in Advanced Search. Didn't know you sold anything from Apple and Microsoft.

Orange on Blue? I would change that. Orange must go with some other color than blue.

It's fine. Think B&O Timesaver...

Bob,

I just wanted you to know. Considering I use the newest version of the world's most popular OS (MS Win 7) and the second most popular browser (Firefox 3.6.8) I imagine there are others who are or would experience the same anomaly. Sure, I can shrink my default font size to fix the issue, but then reading the damn thing becomes challenging with these new bifocals.

Firefox 3.6 has actually proven to be quite buggy in my recent experience. It has odd errors wrt semi-valid SSL certificates too. It's a shame, but lately, Firefox has turned into every bit the pig that the browsers it was trying not to be were.

Bob, I think the site looks great, don't sweat the minor bugs like that, I think you're definitely on the right track here (and enlisting a bunch of detail oriented modelers is far more QA than I'd ever wish on myself, but probably a great idea).

I'm running exactly the same Browser/OS and I don't have the same issue you do.  However, I do see it when changing the zoom level on the page to anything other than standard.

Funny enough, with IE8 it's the exact opposite. I get a rendering issue at default (thought not as bad) that corrects itself at all other zoom levels.

I see no rendering issues of the web store with out-of-the-box IE7, IE8, Chrome or Firefox running on XP and Win7. (I agree with Ed about FF--it's jumped the shark, and quickly becoming irrelevant.) All of the browsers have exhibited rendering issues from time to time, but this isn't one of them.
