Just trying to find my balance between the close-up shots and the naked eye view. It's there somewhere... just need to dig it out. I'm curious to see how my stone shapes up after some surface removal.

I wouldn't partially remove the surface...I would apply thinned spackling compound on top.

Too late! I either became inspired or had too much coffee this morning but I took the file and sandpaper to the buildings. I'm on the fence about the results but, it is something new, that alone is worth the effort.

The file removed some random tears of the cardstock surface giving the effect of some of the building surface coming loose / off.

Have to work on this today to see where it goes.

After taking down the building's surface I got a few interesting effects. Still working it but... promising I think. These GCLaser kits have been a good project.

Thanks, I'm really focused here on these card corners and I am happy with the wood fill. Of course these kits had no surface pattern so I could do what I wanted with them. I'm looking forward to seeing how this corner / wood fill idea works when there IS some kind of surface detail. Have to be careful not to wipe that out when removing the wood fill.

Still have work to do on the actual building finish and aging.

I mean, what can you do when even the best Z scale people look like melted wax?
David, agreed. And Preiser figures are the best we have on the market. Here is my melted wax figure and my own version of lasered railing. I can improve railing but can do nothing for the obscure faces on the people behind them.

After more tinkering with the corners and textures, here's what I've got:
