Evans 4780

So it looks like Exactrail is going to do an Evans 4780 cuft covered hopper. One would assume correctly that they are doing this car in HO, but if it was in N scale, anyone interested? Freight Cars Illustrated http://fcix.info/ref_sheets/ref005.pdf shows one patched for CPAA, so I'd be interested.

Provided the cars has the same level of detail or better than the company's 4000, I am. I am still hoping they're working on an N version of the PS4427 (high and low hip), and secretly concocting a PS 4475 too. A GATC 4500 would be nice but I'm in no rush for it just yet, thank you.  ;D

I'm hoping for N scale too, especially an Erie Western car. But MTL already has an Evans 4780 Covered hopper  so I'm concerned they won't do it. OR, is it an Evans 4700 car that MTL did. Either way there probably isn't much different between a 4700 and 4780.

I would be in for a few most likely.  For me the jury is still out with Exactrail....I like the one car (BN PS2-CD 4000) I bought from them, but it currently also represents the most expensive single car I've ever purchased.  That's fine, but they don't get as much room for error that way.  So if they do plastic roofwalks like they did on the 5161's....well we already have MTL's car if that's the case.  Not impressed with their 5161's, haven't found their SP PCF car anywhere, and haven't really needed much else they've offered.  May pick up one of their new gons, still undecided.

I'm also a little curious about their "all cars now come with metal wheels" advertisements since their latest had plastic wheels.

I'm sitting here with a Mil Rd PS 4000 hopper that has metal wheels... did they all not have em ? It also appears to have metal etched walk ways......

The new gons did not have metal wheels which was a bit surprising in light of the advertising

Yes, I meant the gons.  My 4000 has metal wheels but the gons, released after the hoppers, have plastic wheels. 

The advertising is not unclear at all.

"Every new N-Scale model is now euipped with CNC-machined metal wheel sets and McHenry couplers."

In addition, the photos of the gons in said advertisements clearly show metal wheels. (or one of the best paint jobs on a plastic wheel ever done to make it look like unweathered metal)

Isn't that the Erie Western herald in the PDF ad?  That's HO, and the people on the MFCL list have been complaining the last few days about the colors in the paintscheme being inaccurate.

I have more than enough covered hoppers in my fleet. But I would love to get my hands on some CSX-marked Johnstown America AutoFlood II Coal Hoppers!

Although I agree at the price point, I would expect metal wheels.

I sent them an e-mail stating that their plastic wheels were unaccetable.  I do not want to pay their price and then have to replace the wheels.  Also, I wish they had gone with MT couplers, however, I will accept the McHenrys.

I don't really see an issue with plastic wheels at that price point. MSRP is $19.95 and the street price is lower by 20-25%... compared to Atlas MSRP of $18.95 for their newest gon, that is a fair price. The flip side is that some would complain that they have to pay a premium for metal wheels that they don't want, like on the 4000's.
