Anyone else get the feeling Atlas is being shanked by Bachmann/Kader?

Exactly.

Gotta wonder if its only a matter of time before Atlas finds another bed partner.

Had that feeling for quite awhile now. Word is in some circles that Atlas has found another manufacturer to do their production but I'll bet Atlas has other issues besides the manufacturing partner.

he didn't bring it to me, he transported it from Lowes to my house.  he is not Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairie

You are right, I am not Santa Claus. But I am a guy with a pick-up!  ;D

I believe the Fox Valley MILW boxcars are about running a month or two behind schedule at this point.

Just about everything I've ordered this past year (all manufacturers) has been delayed (even my once in 5 years Kato order was delayed!). The Atlas 20,700 tanks were supposed to be delivered in July 2009! BLMA gave vague delivery dates on the 4000 and I'm cool with that. 8)

What is going on here?

how many products is Craig actively working on, in how many scales.  compare that to what Atlas has in O, HO, and N for items currently in production.  somethings must wait, the pockets are only so deep.  run with existing tooling, modify existing tooling, or create new tooling - each option is progressively more expensive.  look at how deep the Atlas product line is compared to Craig's - BLMA is able to offer high quality items in limited runs - he does not have 200 some products in each scale in production.

when i was at MTH, i learned first hand the power the "pre-order" numbers can have on a production schedule.

You're just so off on this one. Look, I don't like Craig necessarily and, until his most recent TOFC announcement, his products haven't thrilled me or are too costly for my budget, but you gotta hand it to the kid, he does what he says and on time. If he can manage multiple projects on his own and manage them successfully, Atlas can certainly learn a lesson from him. I don't mean they should buy him out or hire him, I mean they should look at becoming a bit more lean and mean so they can scrap with him, because his style of business is obviously more enticing to modelers.

Maybe Atlas will quit China and go to Afghanistan for products!  Maybe C55 curved turnouts will replace the opium poppy as the national money maker.  Maybe instead of an Atlas forum pin there will be Atlas forum burkas.  Maybe, since I retired and think of these things, I have way too much time on my hands.  Oh, the power of 'maybe', second only to the authority of 'if'.

Frank, which Milwaukee Boxcars. We just got in the latest release about 2 weeks ago with the Double Doors.

Atlas does have alot in the pipeline, and alot of lower than expected sales on the products delivered over the past year.

If you actually posted your updates (with photos), maybe you wouldn't get much of a flaming between all the waffling. Compare this to your current situation, Atlas will continue to get flamed until they "make-good" on their curved switches. Same applies here and I can pretty much speak for everyone in the group that we are all interested in your work, otherwise we wouldn't flame you. Get your head out of your tookus and show us some pics.

You're just so off on this one

what model train manufacturer did you work for in their Production department?  i was at MTH and brought the world a few great models and many not so great models.  several of my projects were put off repeatedly due to low pre-order numbers.  when you need to borrow to finance a production, banks look for sound practice when making a loan (except for a mortgage it seems), they are funny that way.

Atlas have maybe $5M in product in production at any given point based on the number of products currently available and "coming soon" i doubt BLMA is pushing $500K.

Wow.  So why stay involved if you have decided against providing value to the forum?  You do realize, I hope, that most of us are genuinely interested in your work.  Statements like yours above signal either that you are not doing any work or are not interested in sharing said work, which in either case makes it completely nonsensical for you to stay involved in TRW.

I would like to see pictures on TRW of your layout, but if you want to take your ball and go home, I won't lose any sleep.
