I decided to scratchbuild a 24 roometter "I" class Canadian National sleeper...... nope; don't know why.....brass sides are availbale but at almost $50.00 a set plus core kit... "nah".....
The "I" class were the first post WW2 modern cars ordered by CNR in 1947. It took until 1950 for them to be delivered and they were huge.... over 80 tons, thus the three axle trucks....
Those trucks caused issues with the American Core Kit; thus not being able to use the standard steps; rather having to cut caboose steps off and "McGiver" them in....
The sides were cut from .20 thou styrene; corner hole drilled windows and brass grabs and ladders....

The sides were sanded; and then primed with flat white. A home made mixture for CN Grey 17 was made; slightly yellower then the norm because I wanted the car to look like it had been in service for 22 years (I model the early 1970's)
The sides were masked, painted black and then clear styrene was used and window treatments were applied. Decals then followed.
The car was assembled and then weathered....
Here's the "Iroquois" with a Rapido "E" class Duplex sleeper and an Intermountain-Centralia 4-4-2 sleeper rounding the Northill corner... and "yes" I forgot to paint the ladder.... @##!#@!@!!!

Ironically; this car will run in the first section of the "Super Continental" as by the 1970's these were either "Tourist Sleepers" mixed with coaches or Dayniters or worse.... crew bunk cars at the end of the consist....
A unique car; and I'm overall happy with it...
