PC G42 Gondola Pics? (and Flexi-Flo question)

I recently picked up a job lot of old cars including an AHM covered gondola and some flex-flo cars. (the was even a Kadee N scale car (Yellow SCL Insulated boxcar)  which is selling for $40 on ebay LOL - I'll take 30 for it! ;))

The gondola is in BM paint but has been crappily weathered, so I plan to strip and repaint  it. Am I right in thinking this model is pretty much a G42 class car and would have been used by PC ? If so does anyone know what colour it would have been, or better yet have a picture?

Re the flexi-flo cars, where did they operate (I'm led to believe they were pretty much in captive service)?

I remember looking these up when I was working on this...


Of course, the first problem is it's only 50' long, like most N scale gondolas, also, the flange at the top, designed to catch the covers, is way too high.

Hence the Laurel Valley paint job, the private road collection includes a lot of former foobies.

There were two styles of Austria-tooled covered gons 40 years ago.  Lee's model is the gon based on the PRR (PC) prototype, but I think the BM car was the other style.

Regarding the AHM-released Flexi Flo hoppers - those are based on the ACF pd3500 hopper manufactured solely for the NYC in 1964.  They had extreme longevity, lasting as a fleet until very recently, and there still are a handful active in private company service I believe.  But yes, they generally ran between Chicago, Boston and New York on the old Water Level Route because they could only be loaded/unloaded at specific facilities.  The biggest facility was in Saugerties NY, and most of the cars were stored/serviced there when not generating revenue.

All of the road names offered by AHM on both models were not prototypical.

By the way, the PD3500 cars would often be unloaded in my home town, Framingham. There was a tream track right off 135 where the current MBTA station sits. This track was used to unload the hoppers into trucks equiped with a suction system. Other uses for the track was telephone poles and other large/bulky objects.

The track was removed around 1993. Phone poles are now unloaded on the eastern most iron of North Yard. I have not seen a PD3500 car here in over 15 years.

PD3500 cars, Wonderbread hoppers, a ton of ex PRR cabooses. Man the early 1990s were great here.

Totally missed this part of the question.  The normal PC Deepwater green with standard markings.  Not sure of the proper trucks - they probably remained on their PRR originals.  I think there is a pic of one in the Morning Sun PC F&PCG.

Amazingly I could'nt find any pix online.

The AHM gon is dollars to donuts 50' thereby is a "freelanced" though probably based on something - definately not the G42 though. The Aurora Minitrix gon above is also said to be "based" on the G42 but I'm skeptical until I see a photo.

Mark, you are correct, I should have said the Aurora/Minitrix/Postage Stamp gondola is a model of the G36c.
