Brick/Cut Stone Walls
« on: September 13, 2009, 12:14:10 PM »
I'm interested in learning what people normally use for their brick or cut stone wall needs.  Places I've needed cut stone, natural stone, or brick:

- retaining walls
- building foundations
- normal low walls
- dock walls

Is everyone using plaster molds, or molden sheet styrene?  I've hand carved some of the natural stone stuff I needed but that's time consuming and always seems to be vaguely out of scale.

I confess to being a "non-hard core" modeler in this department, as I mostly use N scale Pre-Size and Chooch stone wall materials.

Here's some Pre-Size cut stone chopped up to make bridge piers:

...and some old Chooch random stone wall used for a tunnel portal and retaining wall:

I've used N scale stacked tie retaining wall material that I sliced into narrower strips and bonded back together to make it closer to Z:

For building foundations and suchlike, I laminate leftover etched brass kit walls to sheet styrene to simulate cinderblock:

Chris - very cool and thanks for the link.  Just bought some.  I also got some Chooch walls like David uses and will probably mix/match between my N Scale and Z scale projects.
