Thanks for the offer Ed.  As you probably know, Conrail had equipment specifically assigned for (and specifically modified for) operation in Canada (as did the C&O). Both railways maintained shop forces in St. Thomas, ON.  For a short while, a few Conrail Geeps were running around with red bells and horns (until management caught wind of it!). 

Iain, North Carolina is a fair distance from Ontario!  NS was here (sadly, no longer) as a result of the transfer of running rights originally assigned to the Wabash and they operated over CN trackage.

Oh yeah, those CDN service GPs were a trip. I love the ones with the funny color sills. As soon as I read your post I was excited about seeing some of those as models.

I grew up in Sarnia, and I remember seeing the nice colourful Chessie GP38s down at the yard when my dad would take us down by that area to check out the ships tied up at the Imperial Oil fuel dock. It's all CSX now, and mostly the new dark blue scheme, which I don't care for as much as the older blue, yellow & grey scheme, of which there's at least one engine left in Sarnia still with that paint, and I was able to catch them running their transfer over to the CN yard last weekend.

If I were to go back and model my hometown, I'd do the C&O/CSX south from Sarnia to Blenheim, but my current plans lie with modelling the north end of the Algoma Central.

Okay then.   I guess since I've posted a few times and lurked over the last 6 months or so, and have yet to introduce myself,  I should take care of it.  I'm Brian from Central OH, and have been an off and on again in N scale since around 1978.  I'm a member of Central Ohio N Trak.  Since I am an apartment dweller for a while, I am working on the good 'ole hollow door layout.  The same plan as Dave Vollmer's by coincidence, and hope to do half as good a job as he has.  I enjoy modeling Conrail primarily the 90's, but broadening the time frame to late PC onto the split. Also toying around with modeling the Ohio Central also. Have started to day dream and hope to model the Panhandle line around the Morgan Run and Coshocton areas when living space permits.  Became interested since visiting the OC shops a few years ago, kinda why the door is stuck in the blue foam stage.  Learned a lot already from just sitting on the sidelines and reading the posts from you all.  Thanks.

It seems that some reg'lars on "another forum" I frequent are over here, so you have been warned.

Summary for the others: in N since 1968-ish, dabbled with HO in the '70s but not enough to be corrupted, model UP during the peak of the double-diesel era (1963-1970), member UPHS; no layout currently but room for it is under construction. Serious railfan since forever. Software engineer with education in electronics engineering, and a smidge of employment history with two railroads.

Most significant recent N purchases: ABBA set of BLI E9's, a boatload of Red Caboose PFE mech reefers in 24 different road #'s, Bachmann DDA40X. And a 55-gallon drum of Fox Valley wheelsets.

Projects on bench: SD24B almost ready for paint, GP9B not far behind, DD35 in beginning stages, above DDA40X getting fixed pilots and detail corrections, 3 undec Con-Cor U50's waiting for the round-tuit for detailing and handrail replacement.

I thought I'd done an intro and I was going to update it. After reading 27 pages, I suppose I was having a senior moment. So here goes.
I've been on Railwire since 2004 and forgot about it. I've been on the Yahoo list since it was at Stanford and Atlas a bit longer. I also lurk at Trainboard. I don't post a lot.
My name is Roger Otto and I've been in N scale since 1971. I've spent quite a bit of time as an NTraker until about 8 years ago.
I move around a bit due to my job. I spent 20 years in the SF bay area with two NTRAK groups, and started a home layout. Got divorced, moved and started another layout.
In '98 I moved to Denver and joined the Dans club. Started a home layout, re-married. I was one of the 9 guys that started the Nn3 Alliance in 2000.
In '01 We moved to SE Washington and I got interested in operations. Also started a home layout. No Ntrak group nearby.
Then in '05 we moved to Huntsville, AL, which I refer to as the black hole of model railroading. Again, I started a home layout. No Ntrak group nearby. I drove 2+ hours once a month to operate on a layout outside Birmingham. Great group of N Scalers.

Earlier this year, the company decided it was time to move. Again. So, we are moving into a new house tomorrow in Pueblo, CO. It has a 1950' basement, mostly mine. I guess I'll start a home layout.
My interests have changed over the years. I was a western road generalist, then got interested in the GN. As new motive power became available, I've focused somewhat on the Sierra Railroad in the 1950s.
I've more recently expanded my local to include Stockton, CA. That means the SP, WP, AT&SF, CCT, ST&E and the TS. I make a trip to visit my daughter in the Bay Area once a year or so and take some time to research the area.
Since I've been in Pueblo, I've gotten together with a group that has regular operating sessions on 8 HO layouts. Hopefully, I won't be moving anytime soon and can get a layout running with operations.
I did read with interest the thread on the LDE that Chuck in Fresno had going a couple of years ago. That's sorta my aim in Stockton.
